Someone way up-thread cited a line from Simon and Garfunkel's Bookends. An entire album dedicated to the inevitability of aging and its attendant isolation, decay. The first time I heard that album I had this feeling I would never be cheerful again. More recently - and maybe only because I first heard it right after my wife nearly died giving birth - this reached the top of most depressing. ( I have heard the baby is only allegorical, still.....)
