He is such a great coach that 15 players quit in protest. (And only three of them returned to the team.)
Exactly why he is a great coach. Soccer is a team sport. A team of eleven playing together will beat a team of eleven superior athletes trying to beat you one on one. Say what you will about him, but Spain played well as a team. Individuals can be dangerous, but the most dangerous player on a soccer field is the player who is left unguarded. By moving the ball around and finding the open player, Spain was able to beat numerous teams with superior individual talent. Their final two goals were scored by the outside back. The problem with the US is they play too selfish. They need a coach like Vilda.
Alas, it was not meant to be. Morocco hired current world champion coach Vilda.

USWNT lost to 35th ranked Mexico for the second time ever last night. Mexico’s new coach was hired from the Spanish junior women’s ranks (where he won the U20 Women’s World Cup) and had them playing Spanish style football. The USWNT interim women’s coach was outmatched. Spain passed better and was better in the attacking third. Both scores came on counters. The US was terrible in the attacking third and their set pieces were horrendous.
