What could Jeremy Warner run an 800 in?

You guys are looking at the wrong guy. The guy you should be looking at for 800 is Kerron Clement, who ran 16-something in cross in hs AND took out MJ's indoor WR.

Agreed, 400h guys would transition better than 200/400 guys. Bershawn could probably clock a pretty fast 800m

Wow you hate me! That's fantastic. Hmmm....what should I do now. I guess i'll read more posts about what Lance Armstrong could run a marathon in, or what's wrong with Alan Webb, or maybe i'll suck on Pre's nuts like some people do, or I could just bash everyone like some of elitest asshole in here do. I often wonder what Wariner could run an 800 in. I don't know why so few runners have that same curiousity.

I think Wariner could run somewhere in the 1:39 to 1:41 range. I pray that he decides to race an 800 one day.

I remember, back in the late '80s, reading quotes from Danny Everett's college coach (John Smith, I think) about how Danny was someone who could think about times like 1:39 for the 800. Apparently it just doesn't work out.

Consider that Juantorena was within a half second of Wariner's 400 PR, yet never went below 1:43. Mark Everett was in the 44 second range at 400, and never went below 1:43. When people start talking about 800 performances like 1:40 and 1:39 for these 400 guys, I think they are naive.

Maybe a guy like Wariner could do it, or maybe Michael Johnson could have.....but I really doubt it.

Felix Sanchez has run 1:49 for 800m while still training for the 400m hurdles. I'm not sure what Wariner could run.

The question is why in the world would be want to move to an event that requires a huge shift in training? The 400m is a "sexier" event and he's the best at that anyway. Maybe if he starts popping 42s and gets bored he'll move up, but doubtful.

I am the only Andrew in Tennessee, and to whoever thinks i'm getting angry about this, you may want to read my posts again. I know it's tough to read sarcasm, but give it another shot, i'm sure you can figure it out. Also, i'm not saying that anyone who can run a 44 would be good at the 800. I'm not suggesting that Butch Reynolds could have ran a good 800. I think MJ would have been shitty at it too. Too much bulk to carry around. I'm just saying that a slim guy, that is as fast as Warner is, with training might be good at a 800. I'd be curious to see it. It's not the glamor event the 400 is, so why would a guy in his shoes step up and train for it. He wouldn't. But I'd like to see what he could do if he did. If you think there isn't a chance he'd do well, good that's your opinion. I seem to think that with training he'd be pretty damn good.

I once watched a 400m guy try the 800m, he went out like he was running a 400m and was looking great through the 400m then there was a little stagger in his step after 500m.

At 600m he step off the track and then fell down, it was funny and he never tried another 800m.

The answer is that, right now, Wariner probably couldn't run a particularly impressive 800m; my estimate is 1:47-1:49.

However, with several years of 800m-specific training, he could challenge the world record.

I bet Allyson Felix will set the world record in the 400.

is it just me or are 800 runners a dying breed? Seems nowadays that since the 800 isnt a glory event like the Mile, its used as a gimme for the guys who don't have the endurance for a mile or the speed for a 400.

Its too bad because I love racing the 800.

I'm pretty sure that Gatlin would beat him in the 800. Just think, Gatlin could jog 8 nice and easy 100m segments in 12 sec. and we would have a nice new world record in 1:36.
