what is the strangest shoe a Oly wannabe raced in on Saturday?

Sounds like you're trying to take away from Jake Riley's performance, and credit it all to the shoes. What an a-hole.

If anyone was paying attention, all of the winners of the Tokyo marathon, men and women, wore the Alphafly's.

Seems to me that the Alphafly is a bit like most Newton shoes. They sort of 'snap' you into place, and either work for you, or they don't.

The Vaporfly is a lot more forgiving/less controlling, though torque and pronation are the big issue.

We're still evolving here, for sure.

This is a cool thread. We need pictures of all these shoes in action Saturday.

It really looks like the company that has dropped the ball is adidas.

They used to be a top choice in marathons.

Now, they are near the bottom.

did anyone obtain Alphaflys on Fri and then *regret* racing in them on Saturday? I haven't heard any hot takes.

If you were paying attention, which you apparently were not, the winners of both the men's and women's race in Tokyo wore the NEXT%.

The first Alphafly finisher was 3rd place in the men's race after the guy in NEXT% out kicked him for 2nd.

Osako was in Alpha though.

You should probably, I dunno, actually have some facts before posting again.

Atreyu Running is a new company that just dropped pre-sales of a new, no-frills racer-style shoe. Have a cheaper subscription-style of purchase as well. Likely no VaporFly killer but sweet nonetheless.

Sure it's an ad haha but it's such a small group that it's cool they were even represented at the trials...

Anybody know if/when Altra will come out with a carbon plate shoe?

That's crazy, that A8 midsole is nothing. Can't imagine that's comfortable for too long

Have you run in it? I can't feel the plate at all -- it seems really thin and flexible compared to typical carbon shoes. I don't know that the plate's there to be anything but a gimmick, because the shoe doesn't feel fast to me.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. I would say the Vanish-R is halfway to a racing flat, but still feels very minimal.

Also I was wrong about the plate -- it's a woven TPU, not carbon fiber.
