Running should impress only through indirect effects: patient, determination, calm, general functional fitness (e.g., you don't complain for being tired or out of breath when walking around, or help her moving stuff or when having sex, or other situations where better mental and physical fitness helps).
Sure, running can hurt in this sense if you overtrained, obsessed, always injured, etc.
And no, don't worry about the way your body looks in the mirror. Women can sense the difference between well-functioning body (even if they are "too skinny" or "too fat") and a "perfect" body of a vanity whore (i.e. those that diet and exercise just for look).
