I might change the target but I think it is silly to stop working hard just because my fitness is improving. Also how did you go sub 6:30 pace for 13.1 miles if you were uncomfortable running 7 pace for 3-4 miles.
No at clue. The 1.25.40 half (flat road/town, chipp timed, measured course with 2k people) I ran wasn't a goal race so I hadn't trained for it much apart from a few tempo runs, hadn't gone under 90 before either.
This 7min pace 'tempo' run (actual paces were 6.50/6.55/6.55) was my last 'workout' and was 10 days out. The only other tempo runs I ran were exactly the same - i.e. 5-8 mile runs with 3 miles at 6.55ish pace. All genuinely felt tough! Prior weekly mileages were 15/40/40/50/55 then race week. Long runs for those weeks were 0/10/10/10/16/16. Easy runs during the week were simply 4-5 miles, at 8-9min pace. I was 39 at the time. Hope this info helps. Your faster than you think, just don't over train.
Thanks. Sounds like you had an amazing race. What was your 10k/5k pr going into the race? I am hoping that my 10k in 5 weeks gives me an idea of where I stand heading into my half. Yeah, def trying to avoid over training.
