Someone’s getting fired over this at Hoka’s... They’ve been onto this trend for years but couldn’t make them lighter... and springier... and faster... EPIC FAIL: right idea on their part but wrong and for too long trying to execute it properly... LOL
It's gonna suck when the shoe steals the narrative around the first sub 2 marathon. Personally, I like when historic breakthroughs are the result of superior athleticism and training.
Kimetto broke the world record wearing boost. A foam technology with 15% better energy return than normal shoes. (If we were to make a physics spring equation out of it). The 4%’s are about 15% better than boost foam in that field. Nobody complained about boost, but all guns pointed at Nike for challenging boost foam.

Well, for one, Kimetto wasn't the only one wearing the Adios shoes.
Gotta love these shoes. All those guys running sub-25:00 for 8K on the roads in these magic shoes placed like in the 200's at XC Nationals... total joke. Shoes are a farce. So many guys can run without them. XC and Trails is the neutralizer.

To take the track analogy you bring up: we all agree that modern rubber tracks are faster then old cinder tracks. But if someone developed a track that used a trampoline effect to actively launch the runner forward with each step, you're practicing a different activity. It's not simply an advancement in materials.
Except that is exactly what modern tracks do, to the point that they quantify this property of launch and limit it to a factor of 0.7.
And regardless of what you or others say, there is nothing active about tracks or Vaporfly shoes. Everything is passive.
Bikes are also passive.
If your argument in favour of clown shoes can also apply to bikes or rollerblades, it’s a bad argument.

To me, it's not better than doping. To me, he hasn't bettered Kimetto's WR legitimately. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but there it is.

All compressible foams, from blown rubber to EVA to Boost to EverRUN, provide some degree of energy return. That is, they act like springs and aid in propulsion. If you wanted to outlaw energy return, runners would have to wear shoes with soles made of wet clay.
