OP. like most of us is a hobby jogger performing far below trainable potential and probably isn’t a gifted talent. Comparisons and inferences drawing from select world class athletes is of dubious value. Lack of tight correlation between 400 speed and 10k speed is just what it says. Several examples have been provided by other posters.. It’s all over the place. For a sample group with the same 10k performance level, you see significantly differing 400 speeds. Many ways to get it done.

Elite Marathoners race Marathon roughly 32 to 38 times one's 1500m potential. Since 400m speed correlates to 1500m, one's 400m is correlated to one's 10K. Most elite 10000m runners are able to sprint 400m much faster than did Al Salazar. Salazar is the slow man's hero with his 57.xx 400m. Runners should not count on being successful with that 400m spreed. I am defining runner as one who races 800m to Marathon.
