He does not even have resident alien status. He won’t ever become a citizen without being a resident alien first for five years.

This explains why he is running for Skechers.

I'm pretty sure anchor babies get citizenship automatically without going through the green card process, which in my opinion is not the best policy, but regardless they aren't the ones clogging green card quotas.

Tough break, but it doesn't seem like he is becoming a US citizen anytime soon.

Welp, even the failing New York Times concedes that she deserved the visa.

She got it by being married to a US citizen. First she would have applied for resident alien status and once received , waited 3 years (it’s 3 years rather than five for marriage based citizenship applications) and then applied for citizenship. It’s a very slow process.

If Ches is currently trying to get resident alien status, he won’t even be a US citizen for the 2024 Olympics.

Here’s the timeline:

1.Apply for resident alien status: one year to process

2. Be resident alien for five years (3 if through marriage)

3. Apply for citizenship: one year to process

If he wants to race in world or Olympics during his prime, he better run for Kenya.

This is the reality of his situation. Fast track times, sob stories about application delays, petitions won’t change this timeline.

Ok, fine. It's just a legal process. So you'll have no problem incentivizing the #1 through #10 athletes in every single Olympic sport to become American citizens and then sweep the podium in every event in every sport. Cool! USA USA USA!!!!!

Quick question. When did I "literally immigrate" to the USA? I could have sworn I was born here, but it's kind of hard to remember your birth. So maybe I'm wrong.

What’s the point of having an agent or national governing body for track and field if they can’t make sure an athlete who clearly wants to compete for the USA has everything lined up the day he graduates from college. His landing with Skechers makes a lot more sense now.

Firget the medals he can win. The fact he went to high school here, tgen college, has lived here over 10 years with no criminal activity...whats the hold up. It was stated because he doesnt run enough big meets he cant get a waiver on athleyic pergormance.

That was back in Feb/March when that article was on the internet. He tired to expedited citizenship but it came back he needed to run more big meets. Still why is the regular process taking over 5 years?

Look at Edward's college major.

That will give a clue to his direction in life,

He has been in the USA a long time.

It is reasonable to think that when in high school he was given help to gain US citizenship.

It is reasonable to think when in University he was given help to gain US citizenship.

One has to ask the question why... why hasn’t he been granted US citizenship?

Stop with the nonesence he thought someone else was doing it for him.

He was/is an amazing runner yet companies didn’t want him... why?

Most likely has to do with documentation red flags.

It is no secret his documented age has been suspect since his high school years.

Coming to high school and university as a foreign student, on student visas, is not legal justification for resident alien status upon graduation. It doesn’t matter how many years he’s been in the US on a student visa. It still doesn’t legally qualify him for residency.

He should have sought legal advice years ago. He could of married a US citizen.

He could try obtain an EB-1 visa:

But he’d have to prove he’s unique in his field, which he isn’t really. There’s faster guys already running for team USA, so he’s really out of luck.

Because the title of this thread and the OP's handle are in all capital letters, this initiative will no doubt persuade countless others and succeed in securing Mr. Cheserek's citizenship. Thank you for having the courage to do what others could not do: State your opinion about Cheserek in all caps.

I mean seriously use common sense. Sure, you were born here but there is a huge anti-immigrant sentiment from many in a country that people were living in before it was taken. Your ancestors came here at some point. & now your position is that nobody can do what they did? I think there's a huge difference between what Ches is trying to do versus other athletes who just change their citizenship later in life. You see it all the time with the Netherlands, Sweden, etc. & I have no problem with it but if that is your concern Ches came to the US in HS. He's as American as anyone. He wants to be a US citizen.

And he’s welcome to apply and if he meets the criteria he will eventually become a citizen. But, like for everyone, it’s a lengthy process. He needs to be realistic in that it’s going to take many years (6 to 7 years) during his prime.

Wanting to be a US citizen is great but he has to follow the process like everyone else.

A powerful lawyer could have gotten him the Einstein visa, but would have needed some major political power, letters of support from USA olympic committee, possibly Nike, Alberto (top US coach) etc. stating he is the best in the world and guaranteed to win Olympic gold. But he isn’t so no one is going to go to that length to provide the supporting documentation needed for the Einstein visa.

Like someone mentioned it probably was denied because there are already US citizens faster than Ches, ironically some of them former Kenyans.

He should have gone the military route or married a US citizen.

You do realize the foundation of this country is literally immigration and settling on a land that was already occupied. The man has been here since like 10th grade of course he does not want to go back. All of his hardwork has been done here on US soil.
