So this clown used a two year "mission" and a redshirt year in addition to being extremely old already in high school.

Most high schoolers graduate at 17 or just turned 18. Most college athletes complete eligibility four years after starting college. Most college athletes graduate at 21 or 22. Even with a redshirt year, very few college seniors are older than 23. However you parse it, you're defending someone for doing what you know is wrong.

Dude, I think you're just pulling stuff out of your ass. How was he "extremely old" in high school? Sounds like he has a September birthday which means he turned 18 during his senior year like (almost) everyone else.

75% of all graduating seniors have already turned 18 (those with birthdays between Sept-May). Only those with birthdays in Jun, Jul, Aug (25%) graduate at 17. But good try.

He said most graduate at 17 or just turned 18. That'd mean the average age of a graduate would be under 18. That is false and you won't find anything actual data to support it. Most graduate at 18.

This is the exact same thing that was written above except that it took into account a redshirt year. Why would you say that the majority of athletes don't use their redshirt year when it is "obviously" so advantageous to gain that extra year?

I think high school senior age depends on where in the country you live. Almost everyone in my class was 17 at graduation. Also, lots of Ivy Leaguers are quite young because of skipping grades. Probably in Utah they need more time to get up to grade level standards.

Most kenyan runners are 3-4 years older than they say. By this logic, Sam Chelanga of Liberty was 26-27 his senior year.

So, counting back,

Young is now 25.7 years old.

Subtract two years for the mission.

Subtract one year for the redshirt (even if he didn't do it).

Subtract four years for competition.

That shows Young was 18.7 years old in high school. If no redshirt, he was 19.7 in high school. Either way, pretty old already. Back to the original post; is he the oldest in decades? How old was Cheserek? Oregon says he was 22 as a senior, and we have to believe that they are at least as honest as BYU.

I was 17 at graduation, birthday October 22. No skipped grades. Are they keeping kids out of school longer now? If so, it doesn't seem to translate into them learning more.

Sam Chelanga was 26 (born Feb 1985) when he won the 5k in 2011.

I didn't go to byu, but I did serve a mission and ran in college. The red shirt year after the mission is used to get in shape. Two years not running is tough on the body. Imagine Grant Fisher not running for 2 years and then starting his eligibility. He would suck. It may seem like an advantage, but regular Joe's could join the military and get a hold on their eligibility as well. It is a big risk for runners to take two years off of training. Some 'red shirt' missionaries never get back in shape after they get home and get cut from the team. If an athlete is really are worried about age gaps, they can extend their eligibility with something like a mission, a hardship, military service, or 'sneaky Kenyans'. I think the problem here is that you are jealous of someone's hard work.

Props to Clayton Young on winning a NCAA championship.

I don't care how you spin it, this guy is way too old to be running in college. It's a joke. And the same applies to any Kenyan or brit or aussie or whatever.
