You just answered your own question. Only hobby joggers carry their own gels because elites get bottles on the course.

Look into raceready shorts. I think they might have exactly what you are looking for.
Here is what I use:
Single rear zip pocket is large enough to hold 6 gels.
On my run today I had 2 peices of ID, my cell phone, and 3 gels in the pocket comfortably.

Not sure if serious. His use of Muarten has been well publicized. Of course as an elite, he gets his pre-mixed in a bottle. Are you saying that if you're well-trained you'll be an elite and get the bottles and not have to carry gels? Is that what you mean by saying if you need gels you're undertrained? Because ~every top marathoner takes fuel during a marathon.
