Wasn't Brent Larner (Japan running news) his agent for several years? In Japan for a pro well known runner it would be a given to have the following endorsements:

1.) Electronics: at least one if not one from each category: business, communication, personal, entertainment etc. Japan is the Electronics Hub!

2.) Fitness/Fitness App

3.) Supplement

4.) The restaurant he would always frequent.

Also good to see Asics just making their best shoes available, Sortie, Tarther, Sky sensor...Now please Asics make them from 6-14 US size and in the Japanese Last! Looking forward to the premier racing flat, TartherEdge!

If a big sponsor came around ten to fifteen years ago, I would agree with some of you that Yuki Kawauchi would have been on a faster path. He's not going to all of a sudden become a: 13:15/27:15/2:06 5K/10K/Marathoner at nearly age 32.

In the article he mentioned how Olympic marathon is more for amateur and not a big pay? So he will likely focus on World's in Eugene...His genotype testing said hes that of a fastwitch but he's an outlier because he barely breaks 4 1500...But it's also the reason for his outlying recovery.

This thread should generate discussion about his chances at Ultra. Last year 7weeks out from Boston he ran 2:18 in Icy single digits and we know how he fared at difficult Boston. His consistentcy and ability to recover only seems fitting for Ultra

Fast-twitch? It would be fairly easy to be recognized in Japan if Kawauchi was genetically pre-determined to be a 400m man. I'm usually a good spotter of 400m talent. I say Kawauchi at his best was in (52.5 to 55) second 400m PB range.

Per kg of weight he has an 82mm of VO2 which explains why he can go at his top end for a marathon But his unique genome with sprinter traits is the outlier. Perhaps this higher VO2 with sprinter athletic Gene explains why he can go all out in a marathon week apart.

It is known Yuki is Not a Sprinter or Fastwitch...But he has tested as having Sprinter genome.

Brendan Foster will talk to anyone who will listen to him though.

Without Warner/JRN, Kawauchi would not have run Boston last year. The only reason he got an invite was because of the JRN press. Otherwise, the RD and Billy would never have known who he was. He'd be just some random guy that runs a lot of marathons.

And if he never ran Boston in those once in a lifetime conditions, he never would have got the money or confidence to turn pro.

If he will break his 2:08 marathon record is a question of if he`s willing to reduce his racing I think.His age of 32 is not a limiting factor . A lot of Kenya well informed runners I talked to tells they are sure Kipchoge is age around 43-45 !

You realise actn3 gene variants account for less than 2% of sprint performance and that most distance runners, think all Kenyans, have this variant.

I don't think it really says he is planning on bumping up his mileage,. That may be implied from the statement in the article that he only ran 780km/month whereas pro runners ran 1000km, but maybe it's not so clear; but it's not a quote and may have been provided for context. That said, no doubt I assume his planning on bumping up his mileage, just I'm not sure he says that here.

He should have kept his day job. Boston was the highlight of his career.

It's going to be the end of his career. I bet you he will end up injured after bumping up his mileage, etc.

Has a decade averaging 80+ miles in singles. Adding a extra run to put his mileage around 120 miles or so will injure him? Has a pretty good strong base, I don't think adding doubles will injure him.

Actn3 RR does not make you a fast twitch athelete. It makes your type 2b fasttwitch better, but he doesnt have those..... So the only difference for a runner with that vs the endurance version is that he need long runs to make his fast twitch more slow. A person with endurance version will have that on default. So it means nothing in terms of running marathons.

There are some evident that you should have the endurance version if you train an endurance sport were you also need some muscles (kayaking, tt-cycling, xc-skiing). I got the endurance version myself. Every Kenyan runner got the speed version
