Don't run the Big Sur marathon you big baby. You couldn't handle the time frame for that.
Marathon
4:00 – 4:15 a.m.
3:30 – 4:15 a.m.
4:00 – 4:15 a.m.
4:00 – 4:15 a.m.
3:45 – 4:15 a.m.
3:30 – 4:00 a.m
If you're really worried about that then avoid the city and stay out near the start line, you can shuttle from the Dell/EMC HQ nearby.

Can someone say more about the Dell shuttle? I'll be getting dropped off coming from Providence RI and planning on 52 South Street unless there's a better option from Dell. Planning to leave Providence (~40 minutes) at 8 or so for 10am start.
Avoid the bus. Stay at the Four Seasons. It is right on Boston Commons, just a short walk from the finish. I tell them that I need a driver to take me as close as possible to the start by 9:30. I wake at 8:00 am, and uber picks me up at about 8:45 (along with a couple other hotel guests following the same plan). At about 9:15-9:30 he drops us off about 1/2-1 mile from start where the police have closed the roads (this varies through the years, though traffic is always surprisingly light that morning on I-90 out to Hopkinton). We then jog over to the start and find our corrals. At 10 am we are off and running back to Boston. Shortly after 1:00 pm I cross the finish, pick up the medal, and jog about 1/2 mile back to the Four Seasons. Last year, I was on a flight out of Logan at 3:00 pm (no joke, but that was a little too close for comfort), but I typically crash and stay the night, flying out early the next morning.
Main point: avoid the bus lines out of Copley if possible. For just a few extra bucks, you can get dropped off within a mile of the start. Talk to the concierge of any hotel.

Great idea! Clog up the streets of Hopkinton with your personal Uber so the hundreds of buses trying to get people to the start have to sit in traffic. Because you're more important than everyone else.
The best alternative to the bus is to get a ride to Hopkinton State Park. There are shuttle buses that run continuously up to Hopkinton Green. If you are staying in the city, you should schedule your ride to pick you up at 7:30am. Take I-90 to exit 12. Then cut over to Rte 9 west. Then route 85 south to the start park. You will arrive around 815am. The shuttle will get you to the green by 845. Plenty of port a potties at each point. Get yourself organized. Then hand over your bag to the right bus going back. If this is your first time you will have to do something scouting to find the bus but most aren’t far from the green. By 930, start heading to your corral. There is no reason to take the bus.

I ran Big Sur last year. Had no problem with 3-something AM bus boarding having just arrived from 12 time zones ahead of California time. However no idea what am I supposed to be doing in the start zone for 90 freaking minutes. It was cold and I spent maybe hour out of that in porta-potties. Stench was not as bad as the cold! I was also freaking out at locals taking nap on the ground in their shorts with naked legs. Guess natural selection has eliminated those 'ignore cold' genes in places that have real winter.
I would chuckle as the bus drives by and I cleverly use the journey to the start as my warmup for the race.

No way, you're good. I'd take the uber at 9am, even 9:30 and you'll be fine. Let us know how it works out for ya.

Buses should motivate runners to wake up before other people. I like to wake up early, so this bus schedule doesn't embarrass me at all. It's good for the body and sleep biorhythms. That's why I prefer to use https://bcs-bus.com/ to improve my schedule and have self-control if you know what I mean. It affects the body in any way. Running in the morning contributes to all factors.
