You sound like the true voice of political privilege.

How can we even have a conversation about the prevalence of fake hate crimes if we don't actually have any data on the prevalence of fake hate crimes, though?

They're clearly damaging to society and that's what matters. Or do you think they're good for society?

How does it damage society? Please explain what that means. There have been numerous false claims in the past blaming a black guy or a "bushy haired stranger". What effect on society did that woman in Redding disappearing for two weeks and blaming two Hispanic women for kidnapping, have?
Please give am example of the ramifications to society of a guy claiming there are white guys carrying a noose assaulting black, gay celebrities. Is there going to be violent retaliation? If people believe the story they're going to blame white supremacists and not all white people.

It's harmful for people to believe there's an epidemic of white supremacists roaming the streets of Chicago ready to attack them. In some cases like the Ferguson hoax there's violent retaliation.
I generally don't believe any hate crime report unless there are witnesses. Fake ones are just too common to let us take reports on their face.
Here's a database of the fakes. People are crazeballs. They so want to be victims.

Trolling aside -staging a fake hate crime is morally reprehensible on many levels and should be punished severely.
If people like you were as up in arms about real hate crimes as you are about fake hate crimes, our society would be better off.

Do they make me look bad? What kind of question is that.
As I mentioned earlier, they do serious damage to race relations. It perpetuates the narrative that a large amount of white people are actively out there committing serious hate crimes, which really isn't the case. You would be foolish if you don't think these hoaxes don't influence the average citizen into believing white people are evil.
I don't understand your second question - can you clarify what you mean?

Same way that fake media damages society, it erodes trust when their is a legitimate case.

The problem is actually twofold (you've addressed one in the post above, quite succinctly)
The second and perhaps bigger problem is that is sows seeds of hatred, creates divisions, and generally hurts the fabric of society.

between nooses hanging on doors and black gay men getting accosted in Chicago, I'm starting to think most "hate crimes" are just desperate attempts for attention or hoaxes to make white americans look bad.
oh, and here's a fringe benefit - more hate crime$ means more grant money and donation$ for "hate fighting" nonprofits and academics. win-win!
It starts with this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tawana_Brawley_rape_allegationsThere should be no thing as a "hate crime" in America. All crimes are hateful against the person affected. A crime committed by a black person against another black person should be treated the same way as if the crime was committed against a white person. Same thing in reverse, a crime by a white person against a white person should be considered the same as against a black person.
You know the term "hate crime" is extremely flawed when certain groups can be victims of crime and it NEVER be considered a "hate crime" (i.e. any crime against a straight white male) while other groups of people can have EVERY type of crime against them considered a "hate crime" (i.e. a gay minority).
Media and society at large pushing people into their little groups and then pitting them against each other is their way of distracting us all while they take away more of our freedoms through Federal Govt overreach (i.e. the radical Democrat party and some of the RINOs as well).

Thank you for posting!
Yes there are many hate crimes committed but not the type you are thinking of.
•The evidence suggests that if there is police racial bias in arrests it is negligible. Victim and witness surveys show that police arrest violent criminals in close proportion to the rates at which criminals of different races commit violent crimes.
•There are dramatic race differences in crime rates. Asians have the lowest rates, followed by whites, and then Hispanics. Blacks have notably high crime rates. This pattern holds true for virtually all crime categories and for virtually all age groups.
•In 2013, a black was six times more likely than a non-black to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race.
•In 2013, of the approximately 660,000 crimes of interracial violence that involved blacks and whites, blacks were the perpetrators 85 percent of the time. This meant a black person was 27 times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa. A Hispanic was eight times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa.
•In 2014 in New York City, a black was 31 times more likely than a white to be arrested for murder, and a Hispanic was 12.4 times more likely. For the crime of “shooting” — defined as firing a bullet that hits someone — a black was 98.4 times more likely than a white to be arrested, and a Hispanic was 23.6 times more likely.
•If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent.
•In an all-white Chicago, murder would decline 90 percent, rape by 81 percent, and robbery by 90 percent.
•In 2015, a black person was 2.45 times more likely than a white person to be shot and killed by the police. A Hispanic person was 1.21 times more likely. These figures are well within what would be expected given race differences in crime rates and likelihood to resist arrest.
•In 2015, police killings of blacks accounted for approximately 4 percent of homicides of blacks. Police killings of unarmed blacks accounted for approximately 0.6 percent of homicides of blacks. The overwhelming majority of black homicide victims (93 percent from 1980 to 2008) were killed by blacks.
•Both violent and non-violent crime has been declining in the United States since a high in 1993. 2015 saw a disturbing rise in murder in major American cities that some observers associated with “depolicing” in response to intense media and public scrutiny of police activity.

but creating a post in which you think 95% of hate crimes are completely made up doesn't?
