Yup. Sprinters automatically get two full seconds slower when running the open. The baton is a form of doping and grants relay runners two full seconds off their PR when in a relay. It’s weird MJ didn’t run faster than like 42.9 on relays. He really under performed.

Unless you lack common sense or have spent your whole life in a remote village with no electricity, you'd know that different sports require specialized equipment to be successful. Besides, that info is easily Googled.

I know that cyclists and swimmers need light and aerodynamic gear, I know that baseball and football players need cleats and not just helmets, and I know that certain types of shirts can increase the amount you can bench press. I have never competed in any of those sports, and I barely even follow them.

You're comparing professionally taken splits in a controlled environment with splits taken by some random bloke in the dark. I could easily see a 57 or even a 58 second guy splitting a 55 if the guy taking the splits measures them at the time they exchange the baton, not at the time they cross the 400m line. All he has to do is receive the baton at the end of the exchange zone and hand it off at the beginning of it. Completely plausible considering that he ran the 3rd leg and not the 1st or the anchor, and the legs immediately before and after his were the two slowest splits of the race.

I'm not surprised at the high level of denial on here. It must be pretty depressing to know that your best 400 time isn't much faster than that of a few random guys who don't even train properly for it.

If anything. I'm surprised that the times are as slow as they are. Out of all the sprinters at my high school, not a single one failed to break 60 by their senior year, and this included some lazy ass guys who skipped a lot of the workouts and didn't do a thing in the off season.

This is 100% a troll post but I can see it reflecting reality if such situation did occur. Average people not imterested in running to not participate in 4x400 relays, they’d do a simple old fashioned “to the end of the block and back” footrace.

Average 20-30 y/o guys who don’t even work out that much are more than capable of running 60 - 70 seconds in a 400m if they have any fast twitch muscle at all and anything remotely resembling an active childhood. It is not that fast and no your 53 point off 2 years training isn’t special either. Sub 50 is quite fast at high school level, sub 47 is where it starts to get serious but anything slower is just messing about.

And no my views are not scewed because I chill with athletic people, two of my quite fat roommates sit around playing video games all day, smoke a bunch of pot and after being with them once and actually having seen them sprint 250m to catch a train back home one time I am pretty sure could still get under 70.

Charlie Grethen was one of the guys. He ran for Georgia a few years ago. He said they were messing with this guy because he and the other guys were all former runners. I wish I could have made it out there to witness it.

It definitely comes as shocker to those who have ripped you off so far that "normal" people, properly trained/followed, can achieve something that most of these cretins probably dont even manage on a good day, if at all. I would have doubted if you had said they run under 50", or even low 50", but i believe is perfectly possible to run under 60" especially if the person has some kind of running history or even if he hasnt he is gifted to have speed and train that speed for a while, regardless of his BMI.....

After all this is lets_kid_your_self.com where if you dont run at least 100m a week you are a nobody. Speaking of underachievers huh....

So you're assuming that out of 4 guys, none of them would know anything about spikes and tell the rest of the others? Where the hell can you find a group of guys who are that ignorant about sports?

This is probably the equivalent of not knowing that wetsuits exist for water sports.

Heck, I've never speed skated in my life, and even I know that speed skates are different from ice hockey and figure skates.
