Boston is great however it is a real crap shoot with the weather, London, Rotterdam, or Paris make more sense. Even running Tokyo earlier in the year the weather is usually good there as well. Hopefully Boston will not have two terrible weather years in a row.

Better make a new shoe choice as the 4% does not work for everyone and seems to be causing multiple tendon issues depending on foot strike in some of these NIKE runners.

My guess is that no one gunning for an olympic berth will be doing a fall marathon. Kieffer has stated her ultimate goal is top 3 at the olympic marathon trials (Feb. of 2020) so a Fall marathon doesn't make sense for any of the hopefuls.

No spring marathon
NYC '19 (I would expect top Americans to skip fall, especially NYC)
Boston '20 (top Americans running Trials, as well as perhaps other top countries using London for selection)
NYC '20 (few top runners doubling back after Olympics)
Shalane has never avoided competition, so that isn't the rationale. Simply put, she has much less to gain from running the trials. She might not make the team. Or even if she makes it, the reward is running in super hot Tokyo. She can pick her races and be the marquee American and still have a chance to be in the top 5 at NYC '19/20 and Boston '20.
Would love to see Dathan really get one right. It wasn't long ago at all that he ran right around an hour at Great North.
