Was running the final leg of the dmr and was 5ish seconds back when I got the stick. Safe to say I caught up relatively quick and ended up winning the race. The last 100m of that race hurt more than anything

7 seconds per lap is seriously your worst positive split? That isn't bad, you've managed to run pretty consistently smart.

My worst was:

62, 66, 64, 58. If that were a 1600 or mile, that is pretty solid negative splits, but it was a 1500...

I've raced four awful 5K's. First mile, sub-5:25 with 5K's about 18:50.

I was a sophomore in hs running in our 4x8. 53-71 walking through mud lol

Had a 2:06 800m PR at the time.

26, 32, 32, 41 for a 2:11 800m. Last 300m were a death march.

Nice fake math. 60 and 1:20 is 2:20 not 3 minutes. 60 and 2 minutes would be 3 minutes.

A few years back a letsrun poster described his blowup at grandma's:

first half in 1:20

sleep in medical tent 2:30

jog second half 2:00

splits of 1:20 - 4:30.

Every DNF is arguably an infinite positive split. This is a dumb topic.

I respect guys like Ben Jipcho and Filbert Bayi who went for it from the gun. We know in 1968 1500m Olympic final, Jipcho fell a part. We have so many posts on here from runners advising other runners to race 74 or 75 seconds per 400m to race sub-5 mile/1600m. I like reading about guys/gals going for sub-5 mile/1600m racing first 400m, 67 seconds. Gals/guys going for it and blowing up is entertaining!

17 yo, First track competition of my life, signed up for the 400m because of my friend ( who ran 51 flat ). Tried to follow him and ran the first 200m in ~25 then died and ran ~34 for the last 200m. Probably the most painful race of my life, it was humiliating getting passed by everyone in the homestretch. Finished with a 59,95, which is still my official 400m pb.

1500 ... laps of 60, 60 and 60. Last 300 was 65.

Marathon

1:17 first half

1:34 second half (loss of leg coordination, stopped, stretched, sprinted, walked, took a dump, jogged for 1 min, walked, took a pee, stopped to drink 4 cups of water, jogged, etc...walked it in). Without the poop, pee, water, etc. I would have easily rocketed in to a 1:32 second half.

First marathon. I was new to running had only run one half marathon and didn't know how to train. Ran a 20 mile long run the week before and 40 miles the week of the marathon.

First half 1:29

Second half 2:43

Total time 4:12

Was at 3:19 at 24 mile mark. Would take one step cramp, stretch do it again. Collapsed at 26 mile mark. EVERYTHING seized! Had volunteers bringing me salt, juice and water. Had a state trooper on his radio calling for medical support. This triathlete came up to me. I know because he had the visor, calf sleeves and half tights. He told me "There's only 400m left and we can't do anything for you. So, you need to get up and finish." Always remembered that moment. I limped the last 400m while leaning on a elderly half finisher with ALL the people there watching me suffer. Probably the most embarrassing and humbling experience of my life. Made me a better runner though, I truly respect the distance now.

First open 400 as a middle/long distance guy.

1:35/3:24 indoor marathon. 4:59. No sleeping

A few weeks before I ran 1:31/1:37 for a 3:08 outdoors.
