I don't think I've seen this conversation start yet, so I'll throw it out there.... I think NAU is losing their top 3 this year (Baxter, Day, Lomong) and keeping their others (Beamish, Ferro, Grijalva, and Raff). Given the amount of seniors in the top 25 this year, I think Beamish, Ferro, and Grijalva are pretty good bets to finish in the top 20 next year, assuming all stay healthy. Add to that Brodey Hasty, who must be starting to reap the benefits of all that altitude as a probable top 20 finisher - and I can see 4 already in the top 20 next year. So, as long as their 5th guy isn't way back, I think they have a decent shot of a 4 peat. To date - the NAU recruiting class looks good, with a couple of studs from Wisconsin (Bosely and Easton). They might need to call on one of these guys for a 4-peat? BYU will remain strong or stronger given their never-ending line-up. So they will be tough, and might even be pre-season favorites. Stanford and Wisconsin will be relatively weak due to graduations. I'm not sure of Portland Pilots - not sure who all they are losing and how good their incoming recuits look. Can the 2019 Lumberjacks 4-peat?

The team race will likely be much more competitive next year, but obviously NAU is still a big contender.

But, I think it will probably (finally?) be BYU's year. They've been knocking on the door for so long, it's about time they win the big one. Not an overwhelming favorite, but they seemed to make a large jump forwards this year as a team.

Colorado will look strong as well, and who knows what Wetmore will cook up.

Portland loses a lot, but not a team you can count out either.

Stanford loses their #1 and #5, and ran a a few underclassmen. Making the podium will be tough.

Washington and Iowa State both look good for next year. Both are poised for a solid podium run.

Wisconsin is much worse off without McDonald, but return a lot of guys as well. But again, podium will be a tough goal.

After those teams, Alabama will be an interesting factor. Who knows what they could have done this year if everyone was healthy?

Oklahoma State might be working their way back to the top.

Not necessarily title contenders next year, buy young teams to look out for: Indiana and Notre Dame. They have a lot of young studs they will be bringing up the next few years.

But bottom line, lot's of familiar faces for next year, but a lot more teams in the hunt. And I think that's great. A 4-Peat by NAU probably would not be a good thing for NCAA Cross-Country (Just ask NCAA Football)

NAU will become a team to compute for a win next year. I think you have a top 10 guy on Grijalva , and Beamish, Ferro top 25. Hasty will be top 30 so 4 guys in the top 30 that always going to put any team a place in the podium or even win the whole thing. I think NAU have a transfer coming from Europe. NAU will go for 4th peat and i e predict they 50% of the time they will win the whole thing.

So how did Mick Byrne let these two home-grown Wisconsin boys escape to NAU? I think they are both sub-4:10 milers and both obviously NXN individual qualifiers. Not sure if they ran FL qualifiers yet - which they mention in the above video? Pretty cool that they are already buds.

I have no inside info... but here's my top 10 guesses why those guys are going to NAU over Wisco:

1. You get to run every day with awesome dudes

2. It snows in Flagstaff, but Flag winters are beautiful, while Wisco winters are harsh as hell

3. Three-peat!

4. Hangout with Mo Farah on occasion (Mo stopped by the team in Sept)

5. You can grow your hair long, and no one in Flag thinks you are weird

6. There is a chance you bump into pro runner on the trails or S. Lake Mary Rd

7. Flag has better pizza joints

8. Flagstaff elevation = 6900 ft; Madison elevation = 873 ft

9. Too many obnoxious Packers and Bears fans in Madison

10. NAU ladies XC team are very easy on the eyes

guys what if BYU had casey clinger....he will be missing next season as well for his mission trip. that means he is going to basically be a 6th year senior when all is said and done. BYU will be deadly

#7 IS absolutely true, and vitally important. Trust me, I've sampled in both towns.
