Yellowstone is one of the most amazing places on the planet. I've been there 4x. The trick is to get out of your car and go hiking. Sadly, 90% of the visitors to Yellowstone never venture more than a quarter mile from a visitor center or a roadside pullout. Your experience sounds like you are one of those people. No wonder you didn't care for it. It has amazing wildlife, great geysers and nude bathing in the backcountry hot springs. On second thought, stay in your car!

-Barcelona. It was overrun with tourists (not even in peak season) and the big attractions were tourist traps to the point of making some neighborhoods feel like Spain theme parks. Hiking/running outside the city is awesome, though.

-Harvard/MIT -- apparently a big international draw, if the constant tour buses are anything to go by. They're just normal college campuses, and Harvard Square is full of people nodding off on heroin.

Agree, Yellowstone is awesome. Spent 7 days there during one trip, a couple of nights in different lodges, couple of nights camping. Still didn't come close to covering it. And yes, get out and hike, there is so much off the beaten path.

I'm not sure why so many people say Vegas is overrated. What were they expecting? It seems to me like it delivers what it promises. If that doesn't appeal to you why go there in the first place?

Also, their are two Vegases: one for the masses and another for those with money. The trend now is the hotels within hotels with private entrances and luxury amenities. Vegas also has world class restaurants and shopping. If you have money there is no need to mingle with low-life.

Haven't traveled much, but my biggest disappointment was Shenandoah National Park. I hiked through it on the Appalachian Trail earlier this year.

The campgrounds were absolutely packed. Filled to the brim with people. I would go in to the camp store buy food or do laundry. All I could hear were loud pickup trucks, motorcycles, and little kids screaming.

The trails were incredibly crowded. I saw at least 200 people per day in a 15 mile hike. Yes, it got better the further in, but it was still immense compared to other parks.

The views & nature in Shenandoah wasn't even that great compared to the rest of Virginia. Southern Virginia was better.

There's also roads everywhere throughout the park. No matter where you are you can hear motorcycles. Never once felt like I was in a wilderness area.

The sad thing was I was only there on weekdays. I can't fathom what it must be like on weekends. Don't know why anyone would go there unless they have a fetish for obnoxiously loud vehicles.
