Interesting and makes sense that he's going for the win rather than WR. I actually think he'd do better in tactical races rather than the ones that are going for super fast times. I'm sure the winning time will be solid as well

Yeah it's not like he couldn't a bib...also wasn't it Hermens who said he sat down Berkeley after Berlin last year and told him he had to get his sh@t together after another DNS? Unless I'm mistaken he hasn't done much since other than that 25k in India where he was supposedly going after the WR ? He'd better win this one...

He also won a hilly 10mile race in Bern after London. Not much competition though.

Definitely seems like since Berlin 2016 he had 2dnfs, one second place in London and a 6th place in London so not that great.

I think this a good refocus race for him if he wants to make Ethiopian team for Tokyo.

How much was being offered by the majors, and how much was Bekele's agent demanding for his appearance?

And - how much of what was being offered was contingent upon Bekele finishing or placing in the top 3 or 5?

this is the correct answer - Berlin already had the Kipchoge & Kipsang along with the smallest WMM budget. Berlin can not afford deep fields. Chicago had the match up it wanted in Mo vs. Rupp, so there was no need to bring in another big star on the men's side

NYC would have been the only fall WMM that would have made sense, but they already have a good mix of stories, both international & American - Kamworor, Keitany, Legat, Huddle...

No "boots on the ground" to tell us what the pace will be ? Hopefully it will be a more organized race than Chicago where the pacers seemed to be wondering what the heck they were supposed to do with the field yoyoing up to 50+ meters behind them !

He is literally not on the first page. Seems a shame given that Jos Hermens had to explain that Bekele was only figuratively killed being the second-fastest marathoner before Berlin...

First of all I already created the Amsterdam 2018 thread so I don't get why this was created. And no, Bekele wasn't killed. The organisers of Berlin were idiots. Bekele will be laughing at them after he destroys the field in Amsterdam. The organisers of Berlin will feel shame and literally go with there tail between there legs.
