On paper you're right. Why not plan to just better it a little knowing you have more in the tank? On the track that may work, but in the marathon everyone is on borrowed time. Most hyper-elite marathoners only have 4-5 good marathons in their legs before they retire. Kipchoge, while a freak athlete, can't bank on a fast course, great conditions, no injuries, etc. year after year after year just to try to cook the books to gain some more prize money.
The safer bet are the contractual bonuses he likely has with his sponsors when he breaks a world record or wins a major race. Any runner can wake up with a small nagging injury tomorrow and never get in the same level of training that they needed to win a big race let along set the world record again.
He'll make plenty for accomplishing what he did in Berlin.
I totally agree with you though Kipchoge as we all now know him is a freak of nature. Barring good conditions, he probably can run that once every year or two years more like Wilson Kipsang running 2:03s. Even with that, I take note that 2:03 is not the same as 2:01. I am happy Kipchoge invested in education as he pursued his running which is unlike most of the Kenyan athletes when they succeed in athletics. As someone outspoken, he can be of great help to his sponsors and management in marketing their products and thereby improving his own paycheck. Listening to Kipchoge, one sees that Africans especially Kenyans have come along way and very soon will be competing with Western world athletes in ability to express themselves. Hopefully that will make sponsors level up their earnings to match those of the likes of Galen Rupp who is said to earn more than $200,000 per year more than Kipchoge yet he is no where close to him in terms of achievement on the running scene.

As others have alluded to, this is wrong for a number of reasons. The chief reason is actually the one you try to use to make your point: because he crushed the record in a way that (presumably) will leave it untouched for a while, he gives himself a much longer window to profit and advance causes since he will be the "current world recordholder." This would not be the case if he set it with a time that could immedistely be contested/broken by someone else.

The 50K actually comes from the previous record holder, so incremental improvements wouldn't matter.

Yes, exactly. At the time, it was rather widely known within the sport the Bubka's real PR in the pole vault had been set during practice sessions, because he would intentionally improve his own public-facing WR by a small margin to collect another bonus.
Beat it by 5 seconds, ha! If I were Kipchoge I'd beat it by 1 second only. Then I'd run a different marathon every month, and just keep beating my record by a second. After all if I'm (as Kipchoge) capable of beating it by more than a minute, while still looking fresh, surely beating it by a second would be easy. And since I'm not running all it, it'd be easy and I could just keep doing it month after month.

Yes there is a yearly royalty for having the WR. It’s called appearance fees and contract negotiations for sponsors. Better to have the WR than not have it.
Retarded OP is trying to say that Kipchoge should of just break the record by 5 seconds and came back every year breaking it again by another 5 seconds to keep getting 50,000 - the real problem is that an elite marathoner isn't guaranteed to stay in that shape, look at the prior record holders, they've all fallen off. He likely won't even be on top in 2-3 years.

Don’t fool yourself. That humble life story is just a show. He’s a millionaire and he has a big house and a big bank account.
He can’t live in his big house and train at the same time. His wife and kids won’t let him have the peace of mind. That’s why he lives at that running camp place there
It's not the pike vault he can't improve do another next weekend and if he could physically few courses are suitable for world records. In fact he'd probably have to wait until Berlin next year.
