Am I the only one who finds that to be incredibly selfish? I understand he’s depressed and everything but if you KNOW you’re not in good shape, you should turn down the spot to go. USATF probably spent a couple thousand flying him out there and housing him for the championship only for him to run 16:18. That’s pathetic.
hey, u suck!! how is it selfish he didnt take the spot from anyone, maybe he didnt know that was going to happen, and stfu about money usatf has tons of it and dont tell me if you were a young kid and had the chance to do something like that (a great experience, meet great athletes and free) you would turn it down because you werent sure if you would run fast.. like wtf

How, in any way, did he ever "not know" this was going to happen. He got hammered the day before!

Wonder what is going wrong with him, hope he is ok. He was really really drunk on that instagram video that he posted then deleted yesterday.

He ran in the 15:40’s a couple of weeks ago at US Junior Chanpionships yet he ran sub 14 at nearly two months ago. His performance at U20 Trials is more indicative of his current fitness. If you know you’re in terrible shape, you shouldn’t accept the spot on the team. At the end of the day you’re chosen to be on the team to compete for medal. We’re the United States. We send good athletes to actually do stuff at championship meets. This isn’t the Junior olympics where everyone gets a participation trophy.

Very well said,
but Soren is clearly an idiot, he won't listen to any of it.
No doubt he'll pick himself up, dust himself off, and accomplish great things.

Bump although I am not Midwest pride.

I agree with this. He should not have been there, not on that stage. Anything over 15 mins is not worthy of being in a World Championship event, and clearly he is not in good form at all.
Now we don't have all the details. Maybe he was sick, and fell under the weather over night, or picked up an injury along the way. However, running 16 mins means that something is clearly wrong. That's not a reasonably bad time. That's a time that shouldn't even be in the standings.

I guess that today was Opposite Day...
None of you guys get it. Your words can either be tools that build into people life’s or they can be swords that destroy people.
Take any human being...choose the worst thing you can possibly say about them and say to them over and over and over without having any background where they heard the opposite for long periods of time.
Guess what your words will come to fruition in their life. If anyone hears anything enough they will begin to believe it and be either empowered or disempowered by the word they hear. They call it encouragement for a reason because you are actually building courage and confidence into a person. Let’s not be foolish. We all to some extent understand how damaging an abusive environment whether physical or just mental / emotional via words can have. Even science and psychology back this up.
Yet like fools we take part in creating an environment here on let’s run that by design has the potential to cause even greater damage. Do you fools realize that you could be the tipping point in an individual committing suicide or you can be the person who by simply showing some love and compassion can stop it? You guys are more powerful than you think. You can leave a positive mark or you choose to be destructive.
I promise all you guys that are participating in this nonsense that neither Trump nor Obama is/was the problem with our country. You and your lack of compassion and desire to tear others down and curse people is the problem.
What you are doing is foolish, stupid and cowardly. I hope one day, hopefully sooner than later you realize how damaging your words are.
Some are wise and don’t listen to your words and curses. Other like unsuspecting prey become hostages to the curses you utter from your lips.
Have some friggin integrity. If you guys wanna help the dude or think something is wrong help him. But sitting behind a desk calling him names and tearing him down is idiotic.
Could the guy have had a better season yes... but come on he is faster than 99 percent here and regardless of his decisions ran a very respectable time and prd this season.
Seriously why are some of y’all so obsessed with only seeing everyone in a negative light?

Honestly, regardless of whether it's Soren or not, it's right. This made me really reconsider a post I made, even if it seemed relatively harmless before. It's hard to imagine being beaten when you're down being a constructive experience.

Who is this Soren Knudsen? What is his backstory? Never heard of him until I watched that 5k. Is he an immigrant who came to run for the Army or something? His name doesn't sound American. Is he Norwegian or sometrhing?
He is just a kid from the Midwest who was very fast. He went to NAU but decided that he could run better on his own. He thinks he can make a living from posting things on the internet.
For those saying he shouldn't have taken a spot on the team, here's a personal story (not American).
I had the race of my life at a major competition in early June of 2013, which earned me selection for the national team. Little did I know, I picked up a pretty bad hip flexor injury that reared its head a couple of weeks later when I attempted another long, hard effort. I opted to still compete in another major event in late June, but my injury became even worse, even though I performed pretty well. I spent all of July rehabbing and battling the injury preparing for the world championships, working as hard as I could to get over this thing. August rolled around and I flew to the champs, knowing I might not last. I made it 1/3rd of the race before my hip flexor lost power and I did my best to finish, in the 30s, instead of the Top 15 I knew I was capable of running that day.
Should I have turned down my spot because of the injury? No. Because I would never have that experience and that result. A 30-ish place finish is better than a DNS. Now, half a decade later, I have not gotten back to that level and enjoy that experience with all my friends and family every so often when they bring it up.
Knudsen earned his spot, he should have raced.
where can we find a race video? why is the IAAF not streaming this in USA and then only posting videos of interviews....I want to see the full races
