Would that make any difference? I heard this East African invasion would overtake mountain running long ago. It hasn't. Anyway, one the top runners in the world right now is Rupp. Dropping the best East Africans with ease. You will never see Rupp in an mtn ultra. Too many years of track and road running have not given him the essential components necessary for this type of running. It's not just musculature, its joint structure as well. Besides that, you have to have an unbelievable strong mentality, nutrition management and outdoor smarts. It's too late for Rupp to develop this, and the East Africans will never have it.

Walmsley has shaken the ultra trail community to its core.

Trail ultras like Western States, Leadville, and Hardrock are reserved for the selected white class. It is a case of misery loves company. Only with significant pressure did WSER create the Golden Ticket in order to cave to the demand of seeing fresh new talent in the race. Talent that they knew would expose their amateurish hobby of completing an arbitrary distance (100 miles) in an arbitrary time (24 hours). The other races have been sued due to their lottery process. The likes of AJW and Hicks have been exposed as discriminatory and bigots. How many Walmsleys have they squandered over the years by their ridiculous "policies" and anti-fast runner articles?

I remember the days of a DNF was frowned upon by the selected white class. It was a finish at all costs, even embracing sub-mediocrity. Walmsley crossed the finish line this weekend with two middle fingers extended at the trail ultra community. He said screw you, I've created my own group with the Coconino Cowboys and we will chisel away at your elitism and push out the walkers.

Instead of embracing those not like them, they have fought and now have lost.

It's all running. I don't understand why anyone who has seriously trained for distance track events wouldn't at least be mildly interested in the ultra running scene. So... was walmsley tested or not? Or did they test some back of the pack people so they can just say they're trying to keep it clean?

When they start adding some serious prize money to ultras then you’ll see the quality of the athlete entering it go up significantly.

You take all that prize money away from the Chicago marathon and you have some Schlub like walmsley winning it to get on tv.

With money you get Rupp vs Farah. No money no honey, no different than any other sport.

You found a listing of his PRs that happens to have a major typo. Hint: He made and was competitive in the final round of the NCAA Division1 Championships steeplechase.

Bekele & Kipchoge have been scared away from the 800 & 1500 because they have no talent. They chose a niche event because that was there only way to win a free t shirt.
