she wont run a PB. distance runners lose their speed as they get older
Doesn't everyone lose speed as they get older?
she will break the world record!!!

A good 10k and marathoner...its been a while, but last time I checked, training for a marathon doesn't really help out those fast twitch fibers.
Dr Snell would disagree
Good point trackhead. Two ways to fatigue them: intensity or duration. Just run well beyond 75 miles per week and as Dr. Snell said, the fast oxidatives get stressed. The farther over 75, the more so and it probably starts to stress intermediate whites.
Paula can run 66-second splits for 7.5 laps. She can run two 4:11's back to back. So I think she is capable of something quite a bit faster than 4:05-4:06.
Also keep in mind that, at the start of this year, she said that she wants to set some PBs in the events that she hasn't tried for a while, to bring them to a level indicative of what she is truly capable of. I doubt she'd go in for this race if she wasn't in PR form.
Given that she has run a 4:01 time trial a good few years ago, I think that on the right day she is capable of dipping under 4:00. I'm not sure if she'll run that fast at Pre, as the marathon was just 7 weeks away (with three of those weeks being complete resting time). To go from great marathon form to great 1500m form in such a short space of time is quite some task. I say she'll run 4:01 - 4:02 for a new PR.
The Oregon meeting is seen as one of America's main events, and is close to the base of Radcliffe's shoe suppliers.

This unique track has a curb, all the way around it.
Chick has no tits and no hips.
Paula ran 4.02 in a paced time trial prior to the Sydney Games 10km. Chances are, her first 1500m race since 1997ish, she'll roll round in 65's and be ready to do another one 5 mins later.
How many men than can run 30.01 for 10km on their own for 10km can't break 4.00 for 1500m?? Not many I would guess, therefore, i'm sure with races she can run a pb. I would think though, that this is not her main priority and that this will be her only 1500m effort this season.

Her last 1500m was as recent as 2001.
She won't win it anyway - Tatyana Tomashova (1500m world champion) is in the field.
One of Paulas goals for the summer before last was to run a sub 4 1500, but then she got injured so never raced one.
Jolanda Ceplak is running too. It should be an interesting race.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.
You Paula fanboys are so enamoured that you can't see straight.
Unless you're tipping Tergat to run 3:35...
t is really too bad Pre isn't offering a woman's distance event. It would be a real treat to see her in action in Eugene in a 3000m or 5000m race.

You think Tergat couldnt have run close to 3:35 in his prime? He ran 7:28, which is back to back 3:44s. I also believe I heard that in that race, he split 3:58 at the mile. Obviously, he isnt in that kind of shape now, but in his prime, Tergat wouldve been faster than you think.
"Obviously, he isnt in that kind of shape now, but in his prime, Tergat wouldve been faster than you think."
Huh ? I thought Tergat ran a 59 1/2 marathon a month or so ago. This is fast as he has ever ran for the distance. Incredibly, he is still in his prime.
I agree though, he can run at least 3-35 if not considerably faster.
I shouldve specified, Im not saying hes not in shape to run a fast 1/2 of full marathon. I do however doubt that he is in the kind of shape to run a 7:28 3k or a 3:35 1500 now. Out of curiosity, whens the last time Tergat raced on the track?

You are the dumb one, she will run 4.04 or faster if the weather is good.
