Why do people on here hate ultra runners?

Because attention whores who want their non-running friends to be impressed by how badass they are, can do so without having to be any good at running. Just grow a beard, get some tattoos, start a blog about your journey of self discovery, go on some long hikes and boast about it at the water cooler on a Monday morning.

I think that more or less covers it.

Knocking ultrarunning because of those who walk most of the way is the same as knocking marathoning because of everyone who takes 3+ hours to cover 26.2 miles. You guys lack arguments.

Last time I checked you do in fact need to run most of the way in order to complete a 3 hour 'thon. Your critique of our argument does not, as they say, hold water.

I have no interest in running extreme distances, but I like running mountain trails at a comfortable pace for the pure enjoyment of the activity. What kind of a runner does not like this?

I started running ultras when I realized how ridiculous 5k road races were.

They had one of the biggest in Tampa that had 11,600 people competing. The winning time was 15:59. The median time was 40:42 or 13:05 pace.

Completing 50 or 100 miles at 13 minute pace (walking all the hills) would surely be a better accomplishment than 3.1 miles on a flat street.

Your reading comprehension skills do not hold water.

Any sub-4 miler could show up to almost any ultra and win it. That’s why.

Any sub 2:15 marathoner would absolutely destroy the WR in any ultra (Josh Cox).

Ultra runners to actual pro runners is the equivalent of recreational flag football to the NFL.

Because the vast majority of posters here are pathetic jealous haters that simply will hate anything they cannot accomplish or have failed to accomplish. You’ll see them even bashing and hating the best athletes of the world. It’s a “nice” American tradition.

I don’t care either way about ultras. If that is your preference and it gets you out the door to enjoy the health benefits of walking or running, or a mix of both, good for you.

I do, however, despise anybody who uses “‘thon” in any form. Just plain stupid. Similar to an adult who says “my bad”. Just ridiculous.

Knew one who could have been an AA in college --easy--but they just couldn't conform to a team program. Went into "ultras" probably looking to forget about school? Out of running now as far as I know.

Obviously the ultra and hobby jogger stuff is just shat talking people .

I finished 10 of about 400 in my last road race , all age groups and I a am pretty old. Was only “chicked” by a runner 35 years younger than me . Recent 50k , I gave an honest effort and finished near mid pack of 150 entrants.... “chicked” dozens of times.

I don't hate ultrawalkers. I do get a little confused about why they call what they do running? If you want to do a long walk/jog/hike call it ultra wogging or something.

Ultra runners seem to be more self absorbed (constant and long social media posts) and attention seeking. Ultra runners are failed distance runners. Ultra running is in a way easier than regular distance running (no workouts required, just easy running). Ultra runners regularly ask other people for money to fund their hobby and travels. Ultra running is more so an addiction to exercise than being a decent athlete. The top ultra runners sometimes get more attention and sponsorship than more deserving track stars. It's not regulated well, it's easy to cheat and the sport attracts some attention seeking cheaters.

Fine. But, if you can’t catch the people jogging, or walking up in front of you,then you are still getting beat. So go try it and see how you do.

99% of the runners in standard marathons are slow too.
