i've done the 2 sets of 2x400. I think it's better to target you goal pace. I ran 54/55, 54/55. That year I ran a 1:50 was hoping for a 1:49.

I don't believe this one unless you've run 1:43
I was in the Kenyan Olympics camp in 2000, and I saw by then, a relatively unknown Joseph mutua pace himself in solo work out…geez
The dude did…2 sets of 8*200 with 3 min rest in between sets and 30 sec rest in a set. At that time his Pr was 1.45…I wonder what he can do now?
Ready?

When I came back to the good o’l US of A.I decided to opt for the lesser evil, namely… a cubicle in corporate America because my body wasn’t made to take that kind of punishment.
The only thing I didn’t like was the 400/400ih training philosophy. Ask why and I will
I don't believe much in this thread and the 4X600 in 1:18 is one of them. 1:18 is 26 sec per 200, or 1:44 800 pace...and you're going to do 4 of them with short rest? Only if you're Krummenacker.
May be you’re not paying much attention. But please look at what I wrote.
“Try this buddy….a week before Ncaa champs our coach had this for us, an all out 600 then take a two min rest and then do an all out 200.The first guy dropped like 1.16.xx/24xx with the slow guy finishing in 1.18/26…thinking we were done the coach told us to go for a 30 minutes cool down, and come back to the track.
The evil dude had us do another all out 600/200…..needless to say the times weren’t anything to write home about.”
First of all, I wasn’t the stud in the team…not in the 800m for that matter. But the stud has a couple of 1.45’s in his name.
By the way 1.16 XX/ 24XX do not translate to a 1.43…not with a two minute rest between the interval.Thats more like a 1.45.
Speed kills in my prime I could do 1.18 any day but keeping the same pace for the next 200m is another question.
Speed kills, just like your name suggest. I think you’re one miserable and pissed off slow individual, but don’t worry. When you reincarnate you might have a chance. Keep the hopes burning?
iten, i don't think he's referring to you, but rather to the dude claiming to run 4x600 at 118-120 with 90 sec rest.
as for my fave (more along a 1500m workout): 1000m @ 1500m pace, 3 min rest, 800m @ 1200m pace, 3 min rest, 600m @ 1000m pace, 400m @ a little faster than 800m pace, 3 min rest, 200m fly. i'd usually finish it with a nice helping of vomit in the infield. although, hell, i've done it in the middle of a workout as well.
Oh!....I see, But I must admit your handle belongs to the Letsrun hall of fame “bathing suit area”….Lol..
5 x 400 in 48 flat with a 30 sec rest, but my PR was 2:05.
"vomit" that was my speciality...Almost after every hard workout.
“5 x 400 in 48 flat with a 30 sec rest, but my PR was 2:05.”
Diminishing retuns...Huh? I say you try 5*400 in 45 flat with a 25 sec rest…you might just dip under 2.00. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Coach K
my 800 PR is 1:47.xx. I was never that much of a half miler, more of a 400 - 600m runner and my distance base suck. These kinds of workouts were done only once a week for a 3-4 week period, and believe it or not, we did these "in-season" These workouts were geared toward "physical failure" (as one coach put it). It's like lifting weights to "failure." I really did not know why we did workouts like these, but I do know I did them and they were MF'ers. For some reason, I always ran "better" in practice than in meets...I wonder why? ;)
My PR's are as follows:
200 - 22.8
300 - 35.xx
400 - 46.63
500 - 62.xx
600 - 1:15.xx
800 - 1:47.xx

Sounds like some Owen Anderson contrivance.

Seb Coe would have serious trouble with this.
Zuzu, that's not true. Coe was notorious for doing 4's and 6's at faster than race pace with little rest. However, he did not do them quite as often as my coaches made myself and teamates.
bathing, you can believe it or not, it really does not matter. These workouts were "required" of us and we did them. As for your workouts, I would have probably improved my "race" time considerably if I did your workouts. Your workouts physically and psychologically are more "reasonable."
Zuzu… as much as you would like to bash “Xiphiasrunner” That’s very much doable…but it does not nessearly guarantee results. I was a 400ih runner who ran the 800 m during the Indoor season and I could do workouts close to what he’s talking about.
Speed kills, that's kind of funny. How do you explain KD going out in 49 first 400 and thru the 600 in around 1:16.xx - 1:18 and then fading in the last 200 to around 1:46 - 1:50? As others have put it, one can run 1:18 - 1:20 600m intervals all day, it's the last 150 to 200m thats the killer.
no way. just no way you were doing 4x600 in 1:18 and only running 1:47. even if you were doing 4x600 in 1:20 with 90 seconds rest 1:47 means that you are the worst racer in history. i've talked to a 1:44 guy and a sub 1:44 guy who mentioned 3x600 in 1:18 as a good workout.
If I could run 4x400 in 52 (1:18 pace) with 90 seconds rest I am sure i could run at least 1:45
guy, then I must by the "worst racer in history." I not denying that my workouts and their times are not indicative to what I "should" be running, but it's true. If you read my previous threads and replies to others, you would "see" as to why I ran what I ran in races. Doing these workouts "in-season" and as often as we did them, is a BAD thing. It's like putting in 100+ miles of "road-work" a week during race season (both indoor and outdoor). You are breaking your body down with the "hope" that your body will recover in time for conference meets, NCAA's, etc. However, this post is about "Crazy 800 workouts," not having to explain myself and my times to others that only wish they could have run 1:47.xx in the half and have explosive power in the 600 to run a 1:15.xx. Now, you may have run as fast or faster, and if so, congrats. Other than that, shut up...
