Oh wise one. You still haven't solved the chicken and egg riddle, do we lengthen our strides or shorten them and increase turnover?
no
it is obvious if you bothered reading thru above & applying some thought
the most efficient running is with longest possible stride & reciprocally lowest turnover
you have to attempt to train for longest possible stride without over-striding & losing control of cadence
consciously shortening stride & increasing turnover just loses time assuming your endurance stays the same
if we have a 13'00 guy who strides 2.00m but then makes conscious effort to shorten his stride & increase turnover, he will expect to go slower from physics
say he tries to consciously shorten his stride to 1.90m but obviously has to work harder for the quicker turnover, his expected time will drift out from 13'00 to
13'00 * ( 2.00/1.90 )^(1/6)
=
13'06.70
in this case, trying to shorten stride for greater turnover will slow guy by nearly 7s
the conclusion always is that greater stride length is King & you aim every which way possible to obtain greatest possible stride length without toppling over !
It makes no sense.
