People who sit in their cars at lunchtime, what is the deal?

Back in the late 90's, I was still training and competing, but working in an office doing a standard 8-5 job. Since I was interacting with people pretty much all day (either on the phone or in person), it was nice to get a break and have some quiet alone time. As a previous poster mentioned, you can get in a quick nap as well to be refreshed for the afternoon. If I had done a really hard workout the night before, that 30-40 minute nap made a big difference to not only get me through the work day, but also to be rested enough to do a recovery run that evening after work.

Sheesh you poor people. You have to take a lunch and work set hours? I work through most of my lunch 4 days a week, work late Wednesdays, take a single hour lunch (on Thursdays normally), and leave the office between 2-3 pm Fridays. I also get to work by 7:15 am and leave at 4 pm three days a week.

I don't understand why you're making such a huge deal out of the practice. I'm in my early 50s and frequently chill in my car during a mid-day break. Stop for a sandwich, find a shady spot, open the windows for some fresh air, and then listen to talk radio while I eat. It's a helluva lot more of a "break" than if I stayed in my cubicle all day or - worse - went to lunch with a bunch of finance & accounting people.

I did not make any deal out of it nor am I bent about it. I just wondered why people do it especially millennials is seems. Thought there might be a reason. Posters have given several. You sound lonely and antisocial, sad for you.

Nope, I'm neither lonely, antisocial nor sad. I just misinterpreted the tone of you post. My bad.

That said, if I ever get labeled as anti-social for not spending extra time with my Finance & Accounting co-workers...well...so be it. The last thing I want to do when I'm taking a break is continue to talk about boring work s**t.

All the losers in Finance & Accounting know better than to call me anti-social to my face because one of these days I might snap and I'll make them all sorry for how they treated me. In fact, I often think about that day while I'm sitting in my car by myself.
