That race in London is why I hate Mo Farah

Well it wasn't that slow - 3 seconds off his pb. He's probably not chasing the times because he knows he's not quite as fast as he used to be. He admitted that he finds the training tougher now that he's getting older. All that matters this year is that he squeezes over the line in the worlds to become the double gold medallist at the last 5 global champs. That's an amazing athlete whatever way you look at it. Personally I find his races exciting and you should enjoy him while you still can even if you want him to lose. The 5/10K are gonna be a lot duller without him.

Everybody in the field except for a Hill and Mechaal ran an outdoor PB in that race. So yes, it was a SlowMo show, like it always is, but the tier 2 runners in this race pretty much all came out with a new PB. A lot of these guys often have trouble getting into Diamond League races. So Mo gave them an opportunity. Thanks SlowMo.

BTW: Hill's 3000m PB is still faster than Mo's and it always will. Mo will never run sub 7:30.

Nobody veer said that Mo is not a good "racer", simply that he cannot run very fast over 3000m and 5000m.

You really think that Farah at this point gives a shit about running fast at some rinky dink meet? It's always nice to see guys, especially someone with Mo's popularity, go for fast times but the reality is that not every athlete cares about running fast all the time, even if it's what the fans want. You see this same knuckle-dragging type mentality in MMA and boxing, where if a good fighter doesn't constantly go for the knockout, and instead takes less risks and goes for an easy win, then the athlete is somehow a scumbag for not giving the fans what they want to see.

No one's disputing that Mo doesn't have to care about running fast *all* the time. The problem is that he doesn't seem to care about running fast *any* of the time. Like many, I don't think he can touch Bekele's records, but my respect for him would rise if he actually showed some guts and tried -- even just once. But he never has, and he never will.

I simply don't think that Farah can do it. It's not as if he never tried. He's been doing this at wold class level for 12 years. Not everybody has the ability to run fast. He simply does not have the specific talent/skill to do it, otherwise he would have by now. Good racer, not fast runner.

Nobody has ever run sub 3:29 and sub 59:30 in the same season, perhaps even in one career.

Farah's PRs aren't bad at all. I know everyone likes to see athletes do really fast times but Farah just chose to focus on championships only and did very, very well by doing so.

The whole point of the race was to "give the people what they want". Meet organizers know the fans want a Mo win, so no major East Africans. I would hope Hill/Jenkins would have been there at the end in a race that wasn't all that quick, but alas, such is the power of the "Mo Show".

Why do the Africans run fast times? For money, recognition, fame, qualification for championships. Mo doesn't need any of these things. The Africans are not doing it just to test themselves and they're certainly not doing it because some fans want to see it.

At the end of the day all that matters is the gold medal. Mo is in peak shape for to win these gold medals in part because he doesn't beat himself up time trialing in the Diamond League. Away from championships he's not in peak form and not capable of the super fast times. I'd love to see what he could do but it makes sense why he doesn't bother.

Biased? Nobody cares about indoor WRs, nobody cares about the 2 mile. His 1500m PB is quite good, as I said. He just set it in a race with several good athletes, a type of race he tries to avoid. His half marathon PB isn't as impressive, but it was the same situation as the 1500m. Read my original post. I say since he be came a star in 2012 he started dodging competition. His PBs show that. And just focusing on championships isn't good. That is everything wrong with the sport. Imagine if NBA superstars decided to not show up during regular season. Nobody would watch it. Same with track, an athlete with the media hype of mo farah shouldn't be doing that. I am pissed at bolt for pulling that later in his career as well.

If Farah ran 12:45 in Doha or somewhere it would barely make the news.
