I don't know where you got these ridiculous numbers. Condoms are very close to 100% effective if:
1. You know what you're doing.
2. They don't break. This is related to 1. I've seen people take condoms and blow them up like balloons. If it breaks, it probably means you're doing something wrong.
I've never had one break, I don't store them for very too long before I use them, I don't need any other lubricant and I buy a good brand, but come on, where do you get a range like 86-98%??? 86% means it fails once out of every 7 times. That's just completely ridiculous. I've had sex over a hundred times with a condom and it hasn't broken, the upper range must therefore be higher than 98%. 0.98^100 = 13% chance of not breaking. Maybe I'm just really lucky, but i think those numbers are bogus. Condoms do alter the sensation of sex, but that's a different story...
A couple posts up the person says something about HIV -- i know the pill doesn't prevent transmission, but there are people who don't have to worry about that -- i'm not sure what your situation is, but if you're in a committed monogomous relationship and both partners have been tested, STD's shouldn't be somethign you need to worry about.
I don't know anything about the pill, and I've heard widely differing opinions. Talk to a doctor.
Aspirin works really well. Before sex I take one of those 300mg tablets and hold it between my knees. Works like a charm.
Okay...lets not make this a joke thread.
I am also going to my doc soon to talk about new methods. I currently take the pill, but I know that it keeps weight on me. Anytime I go off of it I lose 5lbs within 2 weeks (I don't usually fluctuate), and in the past couple of years, Ive only been off if it for one month tops. I've taken several different kinds includint Yasmin. I weighed the most when I took Yasmin.
I hate condoms, and I'm also allergic to latex, so I can't use this method. I don't need to worry about STDS because I am in a monogomous relationship...we are married.
I am probably going to look into a diaphram or something. Are these latex? Does anyone know anything about these?
There are many non-latex condoms. My girlfriend is also allergic to latex and has no problem with the non-latex.
OK...I am 19 and almost NEVER get my period. I think I need to go on the pill. Has anyone ever heard of the one where you only end up getting it a couple times per yr??
you are an idiot, and should limit your comments to subjects that you understand like jock itch and BO. BC pills are not abortifacients. They prevent ovulation, making conception impossible, when they work, which is 99% of the time when used as directed. I guess you would prefer this woman practice the rythmn method instead. get a life, and while you're at it, don't create one.
oops, by the way, that was directed to 800 guy
Let me know how that 86-98% works out for you. That's not very good odds? And you're only 15? I was great with condoms when I was 15 (seriously). But let me know how that condom is working out for you when you decided that you can reasonably have sex without the condom for a few minutes before you put it on. It will happen.A loose survey I did of 4 women about a month ago resulted in 3/4 of them saying that they hate condoms and won't use them. Once you realize that condoms suck, you'll understand when the pill is so important. Also, nearly 25% of women report being raped sometime in their lives. But, you know, I'm sure the rapist stops to put a condom on.

Male condoms are 86 to 98% effective at preventing pregnancy.
Something like one in 4 people who have had sex either have HPV, herpes symplex B or HIV (rarer). They CANNOT be cured. If you want to be 100% effective against pregnacy use the pill and a condom. Also pretty much not using a condom once with a particular partner invalidates all of the times you do use it. Ladies I am giving away a big secret.. if you are not married you man is probably not as monogomous as you think. He has either had sex with more girls than he is telling you or he may have cheated on you while you are dating him. This also goes the other way around. So be smart, as far a premarital sex goes ALWAYS wear a condom or just stay abstinant. You will thank yourself later.
Even if they are married, the odds are pretty fair that he's getting some on the side.
any more insight on weight retention when on the pill and weight loss when off the pill.
I had a gyno tell me that the pill doesn't cause weight retention, yet I can't lose weight at 1500 calories a day, over 80mpw of running and core strength work for toning, biking an ass load to class and jumping on the eliptical for cross training. someone before mentioned the nuva ring as being less likely to cause weight retention.?
I wish the male pill would come out soon, because condoms do suck and one of the previous posters hit it right on the head when he said that as soon as you try sex without a condom you never go back.
I'll tell you why you can't lose weight... you're metabolism is shot to shit because you don't eat enough. I really hope this post is a joke, because if you're really running 80 miles a week and doing more on top of that on 1500 cals a day, then you must be miserable and hungry all the time, in which case you really shouldn't bother being on the pill at all because you're probably not getting laid.

Actually they are, maybe you should try reading this
http://www.ccli.org/contraception/Abortifacients.shtmlwhich talks in detail about birth control pills being abortifacients.
I'm not going to personally attack you (like you did to me!), but will say that thinking of a baby's life should come first. They rhythm method is 100% effective when done right, and there's nothing wrong with it.
I think that the Nuva ring is the best birth control out there. lot's better than the pill. the pill is most effective when taken at the same time every day down to the minute...what if you get sick and throw up, are too sick to take it, forget to take it, forget to take it on a trip, forget to take and take it late...then it is worthless. the ring is inserted vaginally and left there for a month. you can take it out during sex or not (i can't feel it at all) and you only need to think about it once a month...it's super easy and super effective. they have a website.
I used to take the pill (originally for acne problems in college) and it worked fine with my body for about a year. Then, the weight gain began (even though I was running 40-50 mpw) and even worse, the mood changes. I tried changing brands, dosages, and types of hormones. I finally just got fed up and stopped. My weight dropped by ten pounds in about two weeks, the cloud lifted from my head, and all was good in the world. The only problem now was...the risk of getting pregnant. However, being a runner, I didn't want the weight gain and being human, I couldn't handle the mood changes. This is a great thread not only for runners, but for all women. I think that the typical hormone shots, patches, pills, and IUD's are a bunch of bullsh*t! Too many negatives including BP risk, blood clot risks, mood changes, weight gain, breast cancer risk, and the list goes on. I would highly recommend Paragard (copper) IUD. NO hormones, NO weight gain or mood changes. Take a look online. This is a great option (and it can be used for 10 years if you want). Most doctors will still probably recommend other IUDs, but remember, if they emit hormones of any sort, it WILL end up in your blood stream, and it WILL have the same side effects of any other hormone birth control options. Doctors recommend products when the pharmaceudacal companies give them kick-backs for selling a certain amount.
Condoms break all the time. Shit, I broke three in just a few months time (Trojans) a couple years ago. What were the odds of that? Worst thing ever. Switched to lifestyles, and now, so far, so good.
Thanks!! I checked Paragard out online:
http://www.paragard.com/index.html
It looks like something I'd definitely be interested in and I'll be sure to mention it to my doc! Does anyone else have experience with IUDs, specifically Paragard??
The FDA approved the sponge last week. But then you
have to ask yourself, is he sponge worthy?

Oh, but there is something very wrong with it. Because, you see. . .
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
God needs everybody's.
Mine! And mine! And mine!
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.
