My first pair was a thing from Converse, I think it was called the Roadrunner. It had a black canvas upper and a thin, hard sole. My college issued them to the whole cross country team. Shortly afterwards we were upgraded to the Puma Roma. From there I had several pairs of adidas Roms and finally I started buying my own shoes, usually the Tiger Cortez/Corsair.
Red and Black New Balance 1850s from Big 5. That was in 2013, so not long ago at all. I wore those shoes for all my cross country races as well as training runs and workouts. Never went back to NB besides two pairs of Zantes

Of the 12 guys on the cross country team that year, close to half of us were wearing Chucks
wow chucks are some heavy shoes, I bet you set PRs when you got your first real flats or anything meant for long-distance running

I got a pair of Adidas Country in 1973. They were good looking and I used them for basketball and running. Original cross trainer. They wore out in about a year.
Mine were Brooks Super Villanovas which I bought with money I got for Christmas in 1981. At about $30 they were probably on the low end of the Brooks line at the time but they worked out OK. I got over 2000 miles on them before I replaced them about 10 months later.

I think my first pair of running shoes was back in 7/8 grade track.....I don't remember the name but it was Nike soft white leather with a big red swoosh on it. Interestingly enough I still wear Nike's today not because of the name but they've always felt good on my feet.
First pair that I thought at all about what I was getting my first season of XC my sophomore year of high school. ASICS Gel Cumulus 9s, I think? One of this in that line.
Mine were the Adrenaline GTS whatever number they were on in 2001. Some guy at the running store convinced me I severely overpronated. Those shoes sucked, train in flats now.

Tiger "empherus" ?? can't remember the name , they were white , with blue and gold stripes, early 80's. I remember getting a pair of the air max 1 , when they came out .
Etonics in the early 90s. A very bright color. Green or blue I think.
size 8-1/2, blue onitsuka tigre marathon, bought from a guy who came to our high school So. Cal in 1968 and sold them to us for $10.41 incl tax out of the back of a powder blue pinto. Owned two more pair afterwards. Easily got > 2,000 miles out of each of them. The insole was like cardboard. After running barefoot the 1st year, those were a dream come true.
Not sure if they were first but i had some Adidas (I think) that had some mesh around the midsole or at least on the exposed sides of the midsole. Very strange but I did like them. I was like 10 maybe and they may have been hand-me-downs.
I go WAY back: my first pair of true running shoes were Bata Bullets, followed by Onitsuka Tiger Antelopes. The latter had leather uppers that always took some time to break in, guaranteeing blisters. Plus, they did not like getting wet.
When Tiger started coming out with nylon uppers, it was like magic.
It was 1965. The shoe Adidas Melbourne '56. White kangaroo upper with three green stripes. The spikes were not removeable, about 5/8" in length. One store in Thousand Oaks, California sold Adidas.
