Clayton Murphy Destroys Kenya in 4x800!?

I keep checking youtube. It seems like all the other World Relays races are there but still no men's 4x8.

Ridiculous regarding no replay of the race on youtube too, what are they protecting...Its just hardcore fan looking it up anyway.

The U.S. had one, maybe two guys that would make their A team in Murphy and maybe Loxsom, while Kenya had two or three, but missing Rudisha is a big loss. WIth Berian, Brazier, Murphy, and a high 1:43 or low 1:44 guy in there--not sure who that is right now (too bad Symmonds essentially gave up the sport after trials 2015), the U.S. would be competitive against any team in the world. The edge would still go to Kenya with Rudisha in 1:41 shape and the other guys at the height of their shape, but this was a nice victory. Murphy has now shown that he can win in a variety of ways. 24.09 last 200m is impressive even off of 55/28.

I also think Kidder can challenge to make the world team, but probably in the 1500.

First of all, congratulations to the US . They ran a great race.

That said, here is my take.

The problem with Kenya was a coaching problem, not an athletes problem.

If I were managing the Kenyan team, here is how I'd have put it together.

1. Lead off- Kipketer

2. Ferguson Rotich

3. Timothy Kitum

4. Kipyegon Bett.

In my opinion, Bett is the best runner in the team followed by probably Kipketer.

The US had a very good anchor, Murphy and the moment he got the baton, i knew Rotich was toast.

Bett could have given Murphy a run and this young boy is no joke.

I am not taking away anything from the Americans but we put our team together in the wrong manner- in my opinion.

Also, Timothy Kitum has plateaud. He had a great two or three years as a teenager but since then, he hasn't progressed.

I'd have put in the team someone like Willy Tarbei in his place but even with the team we had in the Bahamas, I think a little alteration could have been better.

The way things are looking, it will take an incredible amount of luck for any of these guys to make Kenya's WC team. Kipketer may squeak through because of his aggressive style but my money is on a couple of youngsters the world caught a glimpse of last year. Rudisha is defending champ we'll have four.

Strangely all 4 of the American guys ran almost identical splits. There seemed to be a residual error of about 0.2 between screen clock and official one, but I had the US team as roughly (give or take a couple of tenths): -

Kidder ~ 1:48.2

Sowinski ~ 1:48.4

Loxsom ~ 1:48.3 (about 24.3 at 200m, 52.1 at 400m)

Murphy ~ 1:48.2 (56.0/52.2) last 200m ~ 24.2

So overall times slow. Kenyans should have made it faster. Great final leg by Murphy though. Totally confident and in control.

where's the whole entire race replay, not the 2 minute highlight from Universal? Are those NBC turds blocking it, if so why are other events available?

Its april, and africans are notorious for being in shape at the wrong time even though they might be better than opponents in peak shape. Wouldn't count out someone like Rotich because of a race in april...
