At 5'1" she is at a significant disadvantage.

The women's barriers are laughably short. I am 5'2" and was able to run the 3k steeple quite successfully. Marisa Howard has the BSU steeple record in 9:43 and she's only 5'3". Elle Purrier is only 5'3" as well. I know Allie O is only 5'1" but she seems to have long legs for her height so I think she'll be fine height-wise.

Frankly I think the only reason I didn't wind up injured in college is because I was a steepler. The mobility and strength gained from frequent hurdle work and drills is a huge injury preventer. At least in regards to muscle and tendon issues caused by imbalances. Now that I have a desk job and rarely steeple I have to fight hip flare ups now frequently.

So depending on her injury history this may be a beneficial move. And the Women's steeple heights are cake. I'd say a couple extra inches may be helpful but maybe not an issue.

She is signed up to run the 5000 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday. Grace Ping is also registered. The event is scheduled to go off at 3:32 Pacific time.

How much does height affect Ezekiel Kemboi? He is very generously listed at 5'9".

Look up her athletic.net profile. She ran at least nine 300m Hurdles races in high school. It obviously won't be her first time jumping over something and I think it's safe to say the endurance won't be a problem.

I doubt that she broke 40 seconds.

And I would guess the women's steeple is close to 8 inches shorter than the men's. Therefore.....

Probably not, considering that the HS record is 39.98.

Is Allie O really 5 feet 1 inches... Looks more like 4 feet 10 inches...

She is no longer listed in the Steeplechase on the latest heat sheet. However, she is double-booked for the 5000m at both Stanford and SF State Distance Carnival. My guess is she will run at SF State makes sense to start off with an easier race coming back from injury.
