Nobody's mentioned this but there's also a cash factor here. Hasay is healthy. Why not race a lot? She's not pulling in the contract residuals that someone like Rupp is for having won medals. So race winnings play a far greater part of her annual take than they do for some other members of the NOP.
Looks like the winner pulled in $12,000. Not bad for a weekends work.

I really like korir. Gritty runner and I love that he races quite a bit, also as an army vet I like seeing that army singlet winning races.
does he just pocket the prize money? If so good gig he makes a monthly check. 30days leave a year. Travel I assume is paid w per diem.. and he gets prize cash .

I don't think those guys were trying to set any records today. They were originally going to go for the US 12k record on the way to the -5k, and then go for the course record set back in the 90s by Todd Williams, but there was a really stiff wind that was a headwind for the last mile which is partially over a huge, steep bridge, so I suspect that attempt was abandoned before the start.
Not disputing your underlying point of how ridiculous a sub 2:00 marathon is; just adding some context as a guy who thought about walking up that bridge today.

Hasay is hot right now. She is finally injury free and she's feeling it. Perhaps her injury last year was a blessing in disguise. It was probably the first time she has rested a bit since she was 12 years old. You all remember talking about her on this board when she was 12? She's still doing it! That's crazy!!!!! Yes, we remember.
Runnersworld made some huge sob story about her PF - a condition that plagues just about every runner. I'm glad she's injury free but she didn't have cancer for God's sake.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not impressed nor will I ever be impressed with any athlete attached to the NOP or Salazar.
Saw Chelanga at the race. His English was just fine, and he was exceedingly polite to the RD and race staff. We need more Americans like him.
