Flagpole, I am certainly not above being slammed, so when you see the inequity, have at it.
Believe it or not, I have gone months at a time without 1. And, I do not really seem to have the obvious withdrawal symptoms that most experience.
Where I think it hurts me most, is that it provides 1000cal a day that does not do much to help. Obviously, if I replaced these 1000 with a better 1000 it stands to reason that a more nutritious diet would help in recovering, energy, etc.
I really think, I am a creature of 1) simple habit and 2) yummy tasting (sugary, or fat) food - it doesn't stop with the DPs. In a simple lifestyle way, I do need to employ better habits. If my wife were not around (she pretty much is the reason I get ANY good food), things would be bad. There have been times when she has visited her folks (with the kids) while I stay home w/ work, and the diet is UGLY. We half-jokingly assert that I would probably make it a couple of months max before major medical issues would present themselves. Surely, I would avoid this kind of scenario, but better to not have to wonder, right?
Unfortunately, during 2-3mo periods of special efforts towards good nutrition, I have not seen benefits in running. If I did have tangible results, then I think it would be easier to eat better.
Regardless, I am very much considering doing another 3mon healthy-eating binge from July-Oct. Do you think it would be better to try for longer (to do longer would be a BIG deal)?
