Nothing has changed except the quality of runners. Nxn is getting all the talent now! But Claudia Lane seems to have good potential. Hopefully she doesn't lose it

Lane would have beaten Brie at FL because of the downhill at Balboa.

Oakley fell on the grassy knolls in Portland. A fall on downhill at Balboa and you don't bounce up and win. Lane blazed the downhill and didn't fall.

Brown is faster than Clinger now, clearly. Even speed ratings confirm.

I agree. Lane is the National Champion.

Oakley is good, but she ran the team race and didn't compete in the finals.

Sounds like the same debate last year with Kelati vs Rainsberger.

Except....unlike those two....Lane and Oakley DID race this year at a very fast Woodbridge course and Oakley won. Seems clear.

What would Lane have done in the mud at Portland?

Lane's best time when they raced was 19 minutes, big improvement since then.

Here is what Lane did in her last 3 weekends of racing:

11/26 - CIF Div IV champ, won by 55 secs. sophomore course record at Woodward. 3rd fastest performer all-time on the course after Sarah Baxter and Julia Stamps.

12/3 - FL Western Regionals - Regional champion, won by 34 secs. Soph. course record, 3rd fastest performance all-time after Amber Trotter and Jorday Hasay.

12/10 - FL Champion - one of fastest times in recent years (except 2010). I believe only Stamps ran faster as a sophomore.

Pretty impressive... It would have been nice to see Oakley and Lane go head-to-head. But both these athletes are tremendously talented. I hope they wil continue to develop and improve.

While most would agree that Clinger is the de facto national champion, but Lane v. Oakley is too close to call, Woodbridge result notwithstanding. Since Oakley is graduating this is a case where one of the great all-time matchups was missed forever. Even their racing styles are similar; it would have been a battle for the ages.

Finn Gessner...His main goal at FXN was simply to get a date...

I kind of wonder if that little drama in turn distracted Mareno, leading her to match Gessner's second place.
