those are some really high standards for the elite... Damnit, I'm NEVER going to make the cut :(

It's all relative.
For example, the Nagano marathons, definitely one of the top-class marathons in the world, with Josia Thugwane and Fatuma Roba competing this year again, is paying for all expenses, flights, 5-star hotel, food, airport transfers, EVERYTHING for two of my Lao friends, Sirivanh Ketavong and Noh Chantolonh.
Sirivanh, a woman, has a best time of 3;25, in her first marathon back in 1996. Best 10km time of 39minutes.
Noh, on the other hand, has never run a full marathon. He went to Singapore in December but could not finish due to severe cramps. He'll do well at Nagano.
So, are they elite? They sure are getting the elite treatment!
3:25!...and getting elite treatment. cool... I could soon be "elite" by Lao/Nagano'thon... standards.
I already consider myself an elite jogger. I can beat almost ALL of the recreational joggers that come out to my local road races... You should see me passing by all those beer gutted guys strapped with high tech HR moitors. haha.
I can beat the race walkers too.
Makes me feel real fast... "elite" almost ;)
Check out the elite runners bio on the Kentucky Derby Marathon website (or whatever it is called).
Damn right this stuff is relative.
Vipam, I agree.

you have to complete the sentence b4 u define whats elite.

Hey watch it I am on that Derby website, ha.
Just because the Local Running Store paid your entry fee a few times and you and your friends had a fund raiser in from of Wal-mart to send you to a race does not make you elite. If your Dad was proud of you after your local 5K win
and took you to a salad buffet...not elite yet Dude.
Hey Miles, nice 10000m time listed on the KY web site. 21:35 sure as hell makes you super-elite.
It says that? I am going to have to check that out, I might have a world record to get ratified, ha.
yeah, i noticed M&Ms really elite 10k time too.

That is kinda why I asked it the way I did. I think that most of the people on this sight are really "elite" if you consider the whole running community. I mean many of the people on here will run their easy runs faster than most people race. I am curious to see who people compare each other against to get "elite".
Some people said the top 40 or 50 - if you think how many people run that is pretty lofty expectations....kinda curious.
