Basically #1, no way does Rupp run the WC marathon.
Something needs to change guys, UCLA had two college students with eligibility left who would be numbers 4 and 5 on this list some 30 years ago. I would bet they weren't even in the top ten on the US list in their respective years.

Kenya has 70 guys faster than Rupp in 2016, Ethiopia 40
They only had one each faster than Rupp when it counted.

Being that I didn't see your place or time from Frankfurt, I'd say you were a HELL of a lot further behind the leaders than a mile.
That is a SOLID result from Bobby, he EARNED all that he received today, except the criticsm.

Just as a side note to put the time of Curtis into perspective. At Frankfurt was also the German Marathon Chamionship, this is the result:
1.Schöfisch, Marcus 2:20:08
2. Schreindl, Tobias 2:20:38
3.Ernst, Jannik 2:21:14
So Curtis was more than 8 minutes faster than the German Champion and also one Minute in front of the next runner not form KEN/ETH. Or simply fast enough that People on the streets in Frankfurt were suprised to see an American in the middle of the Ken/ETH elite race.
That would be a really a great time in 1968

Yes, nobody cares about the German championships (except age group athletes maybe). But 2:15 ranks 2nd this year (Uliczka 2:15:02). Only Pfeiffer (2:13:09) was faster in 2016. Pflieger's 2:12 and Flügel's 2:13 are from last year. Just sayin'. Gabius is the only German marathoner who is somewhat competitive on an international level, but he's old and injury-prone.
Back to topic: Great run by Curtis. And it would be cool to see more Americans running marathons in Germany. They seem to do quite well over here, e.g. Annie Bersagel winning Düsseldorf twice or Shalane Flanagan PRing in Berlin.

This would still have been 1:44 off the wr in 1968! In 1969 Clayton was 2:47 faster. From 69 this time has been unremarkable.
Maybe a great run for him, but not even sub-elite.
