If a season goes from September 3rd to to December 10th (15 weeks) and the last meets of the season are state champs on Nov 26 and Footlocker on Dec 10, what do you think is an ideal race schedule to get the greatest peak out of an athlete in those last two races?

with 4 weeks a month even if you started early August , that's 15-16 weeks and 24 races?
I totally believe you, but that is what? 8 duel meets run in some weeks plus a an Invite or state meet at the end every week of the season?
That is insane, I think the pendulum did swing a bit to the light side...College is barely even a sport now.
But having kids run hard 5K's now, plus the year end stuff, more than ten times is more than triple the amount of 5K's an Outdoor collegian runs at high quality anymore.
I think 12 races is even a bit much(obviously unless they are walk overs). Today you would never have a top guy run 12 hard two miles in a season. It worked for you, but you were hardly the norm LOL.
Jeez, how many rounds of competition do IL high schoolers have to go through to qualify for states? I'm assuming there are a few if coaches feel like they need to rest people for the first round.
Here in PA, we just have districts and then states. I can't imagine why any more rounds would be needed.

Conference meets were two weeks ago, title only significant for conference trophy / bragging rights, no impact to get to state series starting with Regional.
To qualify for state (not states around here) meet: Regional (this past weekend), then Sectional (coming up this weekend), then State at Detweiller Park in Peoria on 11/5. Each classification 1A, 2A, 3A is separate throughout. Individuals not on advancing teams race to qualify for state, too. A little over 200 runners in each race.

I don't see a problem in general with the "extra" round, but for whatever reason a team does not run their top 3 then that is a different story. A handful of teams have that kind of depth and won't lose any sleep, such as Neuqua Valley in 3A.
Lyons Township High School did not run their top 2 last week, both very serious contenders to win individual state title, likely for rest / training purposes, and easily advanced.
Jones team lost out in close pack of 4 among the last 3 qualifiers the regional. They should have known their competition in that race, mostly city schools except for Illiiana and Fenwick just outside the city.
In several of the other regionals and sectionals those races may be the only times these teams compete against each other; possibly never seeing them in invitationals during the season.

Jones is clearly one of the top teams in the state. In fact, they won it all just two years ago. There's no reason a minor scoring issue should keep the best runners from the state competition.

So, I am not understanding your argument at all.
They did not run their top runners.
Apparently the scoring was corrected. Nobody said that the corrected scoring was wrong in any way.
It's unfortunate that they announced the wrong scores originally but the scoring issue isn't keeping the team from the state competition. The team did not run well enough to qualify.

Gonna have to agree with Mr. Obvious here. Whether due to arrogance by not racing the top 3 guys or illness and injury, they didn't qualify. Non-qualifiers go home.
Another team had a runner who was disqualified because he has Tourettes, which means he can't compete in the sectionals. This means that they have no real chance of advancing. That team spot should be given to Jones. Fair and square.

In my state, there is about 200 teams per division in about 16 districts (6-28 teams per district), down to 64 for regionals in 4 regions (7-25 per region) and to 20 for state. Three consecutive Saturdays, ending the first Saturday in November.
In theory we could hold 7 districts, 30 teams each with the top 3 teams qualifying for State, but it would be tougher to find that many big hosts throughout the state for all 3 divisions. As now there are a bunch of sites that host 20-40 teams depending on how many divisions they run.

It's like if the Steelers beat the Patriots for the AFC championship, but lose Big Ben, Bell, and Antonio Brown in the process. Yeah, they're probably going to lose the Superbowl, but they still get to advance.

I'm not sure if he has tourettes or not but the runner from Von Steuben who was disqualified yelled a curse word as he finished and was disqualified

Jones is certainly not the best team in the regional, they lost by 22 to Whitney young who won the regional at their conference championship last week:

No, I don't understand. You said a different team had a runner who had Tourettes. If he did and had an outburst then he should not be disqualified.
Well, if he doesn't have Tourettes, well, that is on you for stating he did.
It doesn't matter that you think Jones is the better team. They didn't place high enough to advance. It doesn't matter if the team that beat them can't compete in the next round. They beat them in the qualifying race.
That state meet won't be a joke. The runners will still run. Whoever runs the best on that day will still be declared state champions. Nobody will care that one of the (possibly) better teams had a bad day on one of the qualifying days and failed to advance.

The meet is held specifically to determine the better teams with the best runners. Injury/sickness/holding out are all the same. if they were "easily the best team in the regional" then they should have won the damn thing and not finish 7th. The team did not qualify with the runners they had on the field.
Your other point is worse. The other team had a runner disqualified and they still beat Jones. It would be a controversy if the disqualification had cost them the spot. Instead they manage to qualify with one man down.
