UPDATE: I talked to my coach again today and asked if there was some other shoe I could do and he got mad and after I told him they were hurting my shins he was like well the vameros are probably worn out and gave me a pair of lunar glides.... Not complaining about the free shoes but I just want to be able to run the same as before and I feel like the shoe change is messing me up...

Ask him why he's getting mad? Tell him you want to run well and not get injured, and that he should let you run in the Frees.
I expected the OP's coach to be completely ridiculous in this scenario but the OP and the coach are probably both be being a bit bone headed. When I started school l first had my college coach try to force me to wear the Brooks equivalent of the Mizunos I had been running in because she had an extra pair on hand from someone who had quit the team. I don't know how I got around it but I did.
Then second semester she ordered me the wrong size and told me my shoes didn't exist. To which I responded 'Um yes they do because they're on my feet.'
I am not at all surprised that your coach doesn't want you to wear Nike Frees. You may be used to wearing them now but they don't have a lot of support. What is your weekly mileage now? What is it going to be?

The most important component of running shoes is protection from the surface.
You don't need shoes to hold your feet up.
They're already where they're supposed to be.
The vomeros is a maximal cushioned shoe. That is why it feels clunky, because it carries a lot of weight. You guys should be running in the Nike Zoom Elite. You get the structure and support, but it is lighter, and it is very responsive in the forefoot. And I'm sure your feet will move a lot freely in them compared to the vomeros.
If the shoes are not working for you, then the coach needs to understand that. The job of a coach is to make sure that his runners are wearing the right shoes. It's not a one size fits all situation, since all runners are not created equally.
Bill Bowerman made specialized shoes for each runner on his team according to the dimensions and shape of each runner's foot , AND THAT IS THE MAN WHO CREATED NIKE!
Talk to your parents and doctor if you have one, because what he is forcing you to do is unacceptable. The focal point should be to find a NIKE( if they are the sponsors) shoe that works for you ,that is considered supportive and stable enough for your runs. Period.

Ignore what your coach says about the shoes. Run in the shoes you want to run in. If he says something else about it. Ignore him. If you want to respond to him, just say "OK" and continue running in the shoes you want to run in. Ignore any tension he may feel. It is not that big of a deal except in his fascist view. Rise above it. Let him deal with his own issues. Run in the shoes you want to run in.
You will not lose your scholarship if you have one.
