Good find but Carroll ran his 100m and 200m times AFTER he ran his 2h 10 marathon.
I condiser myself a middle distance runner. By bests range from 115 seconds in the 800m to 11,280 seconds for the marathon.
Alastair Brownlee. Two time Olympic Gold medalist in the Triathlon. 28:32 10k on the track at Mt Sacs. Not as good as Geb or Bekele but deserves some respect if you ask me.
Any other modern runners? I'm thinking Bekele and Mo can go on this list. Makhloufi has awesome middle distance talent as well. I wonder how he'd do in a 3k with that closing speed?

Stop with this Max King hype. Dude doesn't have a single noteworthy time at any event. 8:30 steeple for 6th at 2012 trials??! WOW. Emma's alomost faster than that. 31:xx 10k??? That's like 200th place at top events! 100k road champion?? Does 6:14 pace still count as running?---I think I saw that on an episode of Walking Dead.

Dick Quax was unlucky with the 1980 boycott on the same day in Oregon (???) He ran faster than Cierpinski. So he got second to Keino in 1970 and ran 2:10 for the marathon back in the olden days.
Kipchoge has a good range from 3k to the Marathon.
Quax was a great, maybe an all-time great or close (WR and medal in '76), but he ran 2:10:47 on the same day that Bob Hodge ran 2:10:59. All due respect to Bob Hodge and Theodorus Jacobus Leonardus Quax, great GREAT runners both, but that would not have beaten Cierpinski at a Soviet Bloc Olympics.
He may have been capable of medalling, but if not for the boycott, many others would have been in that boat as well.

100k is walking pace, not even worthy of this conversation.
He was world champion with that walking pace (6:14 min/mi or 3:53 min/km). You couldn't even run 100k a minute a mile slower than that. I challenge you to run a 100k at 7:14 min/mi (4:30 min/km) and post a link to the results here. That's 7.5h for 100k. You won't do it because you can't even walk a minute per mile slower than Max King.
