OP you did nothing wrong. You can't blame yourself for others being overly sensitive. Friendly, good spirited people would just be impressed and compliment you.
If I was lifting and someone said they don't lift much anymore and can only max bench 300 lbs, I would be impressed and not a butt hurt loser.

I clicked this post thinking people were mad because you are slow.
I was about to join a Ragnar team once until I received an email stating that the goal was for every teammate to run under a 10 minute per mile pace. That's when I dropped out and decided not to join hobby joggers. Even if they weren't offended by your comments, what fun would it be to run with their team?
Find better teammates. These people you're talking to don't even classify as race walkers.
"I'm not that fast anymore". It sounds like the set up so you can drone in about your "glory days". What relevance is it that you were fast ? You 20 years ago won't be running for them. My guess is you wanted to bore tgem with stories about "back in the day" racing Pre and Boston Billy.

You don't get out much, do you? Do you talk to other runners? 37 flat is easily top 2% in any road 10k these days.
You know 99% of road race participants have absolutely no interest in time, right? They are only interested in race T-shirts and post-race refreshment. (At least that's what I have read here...)

Yet another runner with no social awareness. You are at fault here. Just say your pace when someone asks with no excuses. A real man does not make excuses.

1. You didn't make a misstep, you just live in a running bubble, just like a everybody else in the college/competitive racing scene. I've done the same thing before.
2. No one actually got mad about this.
3. Whoever said that this is humblebragging, stop it. No one on LRC is humblebragging about running 8 miles in 56 mins.
Thank you. Looking back it is obvious, I guess, but I sometimes forget where I'm at or who I'm with. What I said would be a very normal thing to say to any of my former teammates, and for a large part of my life, my teammates were my main friends, so I sometimes forget what things are like for non-runners.
And yeah, considering a lot of fit high school boys can run 8 miles at 6:00 pace, I definitely was not trying to brag about running the same distance a minute per mile slower.
