The online streams are amazing. I watched literally every minute of the cycling road races without interruption and I assume the same will be true with the track distance races and marathon. Plus the announcers have been great as well.
Waiting for NBC to show highlights and a few live events is not what over 75% of the public wants. The ratings are done on NBC proper but total viewership is higher than ever if streaming, social media app highlights and the other NBC family of channels are combined.
World has changed NBC, change with it.

You need a subscription to NBC Sports to be able to get the online streams.
My issue is that I can't watch these events live often.
Gymnastics started at 3 pm ET. But I couldn't watch it until 8 pm with a million commercials.
At that point I already knew who won.

Unique views are barely up from last cycle and people are much more familiar with consuming content that way now than 2012. You would have me believe there are more viewers on pay tv channels now than 2012?

And lots of empty seats visible in both last day of gymnastics and opening day of track and field. I wonder what actual attendance will be like compared to prior games. Should give unsold tickets to locals.
can you watch the streams on demand or only live, which is actually delayed?
i.e. what time PST could you stream the 10k w/o a cable subscription?
Now that Track has started, must say the NBC live stream is pretty sweet. I don't even like the 10k, but I don't think there was any commercials during the whole thing. In fact I watched most of the morning session and I think I saw 2 total commercials. The NBC primetime thing is obviously shit, but if you can access the live stream, you are golden.
The doping ruins it. My whole family runs, including two HS girls being recruited but the free pass given to Kenya and Ethiopia has to stop. I mean come on Genzebe in the Olympics, give me a break.
The IOC needs to broadcast the hundreds of raw TV satellite feeds from Rio and let viewers choose which to watch or TIVO for later viewing. I mean who the hell wants to watch West Hollywood bathhouse boy toys like Rowdy Gaines, Billy Bush, Bob Costas, etc.

Totally the best way is to televise the action and minimiize the airtime of hired Tv employees.

3. I loathe NBC broadcast coverage - prepackaged scripts, always tossing it back to the main host, cut up competitions, a zillion commercials, narrow focus, banal, forumlaic personal interest stories we've seen a billion times ("this athlete had a baby and is still competing, isn't that amazing. Did we mention she's a mother now"; this athlete grew up poor and made it to the Olympics; this athlete is trying to make a comeback after injury, doubt, retirement). Ugh. I hate it.
4. It's summer. I have a desk job where I sit all day. After work I want to be out and about and active, not on my couch.
