This sounds like a preview of future lawsuits of other conning ultrarunners. Congratulations on defeating this one.

Familiar with Cottrell since I have lived in Georgia since the early 1980's. He became quite a celebrity for his exploits, rubbing shoulders with many well known people including Jimmy Carter and others. Never ran any local races to speak of though and competitive runners (who met him) were suspicious and not surprised when he got outed for hitching rides on some of his ultras (run across China?).

BTW - Dick Buerkle still lives in Atlanta. The two time Olympian and former world record holder raced into his 50's including a 32 minute Peachtree 10K and some 4:30 miles on the track.

It's disturbing that he originally won his case, only to be denied by the Supreme Court in the end. He's probably one of those loser con artists who sues anyone for anything, hoping to scam money out of them too. Robert Young may have found his father here.

Looks like it. She's on her way to a corner in Winslow, Arizona. But wouldn't be taking it easy running over those hills.

I ran in a 10k at Kennesaw Mtn in 1980 sponsored by Georgia Tech,Stan was all dressed up in a Stars and Stripes outfit...he told the race officials that he would guarantee a win in the race for $5k upfront...I was standing right by him when he said it...another runner asked him what his PR was...he said 36:10....we just laughed...he dropped out after a 1/4 mile...I went on to win it in 33:07....

Wait, let me see if i get this right. There is a con man who is supposedly religiouis but really he's having affairs and not running like he says he is.

The people helping him out admit he's fraud. So he sues them and initially wins over $600,000. I'd love to see the trial transcript. Any lawyers on here that can get it to us.

A little birdie just told me that Stan is planning to start his next cross country run (with sponsors) on or about January 1, 2018. West-to-east, starting in southern California. I will keep the board informed as I hear more. There is a related website being built that will be online by end-of-year. So all the LetsRun sleuths should have an absolute field day with this one. I am neither for nor against Stan. I hope he completes the run honestly. But I also hope he is exposed if he fails to do so.
