In most sports requiring hand eye coordination, speed of foot and general velocitty....shorter athletes have advantages over taller athletes..because it is easier to coordinate shorter levers compared with longer levers (arms and legs).
In running, faster turnover of the legs is better than the longer (but slower) stride than taller athletes might have. In fact, shorter athletes usually have longer strides, because they are better coordinated and have better flexibility and core muscle strength. Some exceptions exist, like Tergat (6feet) who was/is the sweetest/smoothest mover in the history of distance running. He is also exceptionally coordinated for a man his size.
It is more economical to move a shorter/lighter body over middle and longer distances, compared with a taller and somewhat heavier body.
I feel sorry for those basketball players over 7 feet....because I hate to imagine the state of their bones and ligaments when they reach age 50 or over....
But enough said....as there is little we can do about our heights.
