Agreed, I don't know what's with everyone's obsession with Kiprop. It must be from the training session that was posted. Very difficult to judge true fitness from a workout - I 100% agree with you, I believe there are many people in the past that could have taken down Kiprop in his current form.

Don't get me wrong, he looks great for May and I think he is still the overwhelming favourite for Rio, but I do think it is far too early to be sure, and I think there have been plenty from the past who could still beat Kiprop in his current form.

Kiprop literally looked bored during and after the race at Pre.
At least racing the midgets Manzano and Centro might amuse the poor guy.
Although with 4+ seconds better 1500 ability, he would have to be running backward to see and laugh at them.

His legs look like road runner compared to Kiprop but it's clear stride frequency alone doesn't indicate speed because two strides and Kiprop puts 20m on Centro.

Maybe it's the fact that there are more sub 3:30 runners than ever at the moment and Kiprop is beating them all with ease, over and over again.
People seem to still have this conception of Kiprop as being the talented but slightly inconsistent runner from his early career but if you're paying attention you'll see that he's stopped losing in the last couple of seasons.

The fact Kiprop was up about 30m on the rest of the field says more about the form of the rest of the guys in Doha than it does about Kiprop's.
They were given good pace and were busting a gut to run 3:33/3:34 off it!
All very unusual, as Doha usually throws up lots of fast times for most of the field.
There was nothing special about Kiprop's 3rd lap or closing speed there.
And he didn't win by a great distance at Pre. His performance there last year was far more impressive.
I'm not saying Kiprop isn't capable of great things this season and we cannot gauge how easy he is taking things. I just think it's silly to claim he could beat anyone, ever, based on 2 races that were not special at all statistically.
Centro looks good for a career year, quite likely will be on the podium at Rio. A step or two below Kiprop.
There is a lot of season between now and Rio. Looking forward to watching the 1500 develop. Any slip up on the part of Kiprop, Centro could capitalize on.

I have no doubt that Kiprop at his peak could beat anyone else currently competing at their peaks.
The issue I have is claiming that Kiprop could beat any other athlete from history RIGHT NOW.
I think there are a handful of athletes from the past who would, at the least, give him a close race when all are at their best.
Kiprop shouldn't be at his best in early June when the Olympics are in August. People are basing wild claims of his invincibility based on what he has done in the past and what he is alleged to have done in training.
Based on the 2 races I have seen him run THIS season, he looks to be the best currently and a clear favourite for Rio, but I don't think he's in 3:26 shape just yet, and I think that in his current form, based on statistical analysis, as there is no way of measuring ease of effort, there have been quite a few from previous years who could beat him.
Showing peak performances from last year does not back up the suggestion he is CURRENTLY invincible against all other runners from history!
