No, not correct. Komen is at least as fast as Farah if not faster. Komen would beat him in a sprint or with a fast pace. Komen liked to push the pace. That doesn't mean he couldn't kick.
Komen simply didn't have the jets in a slower race. Watch some of his older races, he gets out kicked everytime. To avoid that, he'd run insanely fast early on. His great 1500m/mile races were a function of his endurance not his kick.

True true 👌ðŸ¼
My thought about Monaco '15 was whether Komen could have gone with the rabbits along with Kiprop. I wonder if Komen could have latched on and been dragged along and could he have held off Mo and that pack. What with all the talk of Komen's non-existent speed and all...
That said, I have no idea the conditions where Komen ran 3:29. Rabbits, pacing, competition, kick-- that stuff. Maybe he maxed out.
Maybe he didn't max out at 1500m. His 3k is equivalent to about 3:24 for 1500m on the old Purdy tables.
Bekele's 12:37 5k is even better on the Purdy tables and is equal to a 7:17.5 3k.

I actually agree with wtfunny on this one. Komen didn't have a kick of any note, and if the pace drifted just a bit outside WR pace I would expect Mo to beat Komen over 5000 & 10000m.
Farah's pb over 1500 is also faster than Konen's.

He had one good race in a distance that is hardly ever run (3000m). In the 5000 and 10000 he frequently got beat by Haile.
Even Mo would beat him in the 5k/10k.
You are an idiot. Look at the 1997 WC 5000m on Youtube. Last 3000 in 7,33.
Or this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi0GgnyG0UAHe never raced Haile in the 10000.
Now, go back to your mom´s basement instead of making stuff up on LR.
If running a last 3k of a 13:07 5k in 7:33 (just 1 sec slower than the 3000m WR itself had been 10 years previous!?) isn't enough to set off some serious alarm bells, then I don't know what is!
I had never heard this split before, and if true is simply mind blowing. He basically ran a 2 k in 5:34 and then would have matched a fresh Rono in WR form for another 3000m! Unbelievable.

His 12:39 5K is 7:35 pace so that split isn't really more mind blowing than his WRs.

I beat him in a road 10k a few years ago. It was pretty cool.
Where? He did a random 5K on my college campus a few years ago. 16:00

True! !!!
Which Komen are you talking about? There's more than 1.
Actually, Geb usually outkicked him. He would sit on Komen till the last 200 then just blow by him and win easily. Komen was great at fast pace all the way but not great at kicking.

Alright. So, tallies, before we get too far off track:
1) Bekele (supreme strength and kicker)
2) Geb (strength and kicker)
3ish) Komen (strength)
...
15ish) Mo (kicker)

LOL
Please define "usually". You mean, like once? Out of their two classic races, Geb did as your described once. The other (and first) time, Komen blew his doors off and Geb quit with 150m to go, almost walking to the finish line.
For a good look at Komen's kick, there's a 5000m race on youtube of him as a younger athletes, getting smokes by four or five guys or more over the last 100m. He just didn't have those kinds of wheels.
But I think he'd have dropped Mo long before the last lap of a 5000m.

Bekele in his 12:37.35 went through 2k in 5:05 and did the last 3k in 7:32. He also went through 3k in 7:37 and then picked up the pace and did the last 2k in 5:00.
Yea. He's pretty fast.
Gebrselassie beat Komen twice in 1995 at Berlin and Monaco. He may not have sat on him and outkicked him though. He may just have run away from him.

Komen was what, 18-19 in 95? Still a junior I believe. He peaked in 96, 97 and early/mid 98. the two big Zurich races are their classes matchups. The only time I recall seeing Geb kick past him was Zurich 97. I never saw Komen outkick anyone. He broke Geb in 96, but that was simply because Geb was done come the last lap.
