I would have preferred that he would have given a nice response, something like, "this is surreal, I came from flipping burgers this time last year and now I'm a world champ"...but we got what we got...made me laugh out loud when he said it. Kind of reminded me of the response from the baylor player last night when he was asked how Yale out rebounded them. Sowinski handled his interview much more professionally, speaking of what the race was like and what was going on behind Berian. I did think it was a little odd they interviewed him before Berian
wire to wire he should coach King Chez
DII washout wins Baby Worlds!!!
Seriously, though, he ran that with huge heart.
Gold-Bronze, not too shabby! Well done!

Why even have the interview if the athletes feel like they have to give a reserved, fake, "I'd like to thank God, I'm so honored" response? We have heard it so many times. Say what you want! We need guys who can have a damn personality. He did work hard, and he ran in the bravest way possible. He just didn't pretend he didn't.
Seriously how juiced is this guy! Lets runners are so one eyed. If a russian had this progression there would be rumours galore. So funny.

Exactly! Why was tennis so much more interesting in the 1980s? Because we had personalities, not boring robots like Djokovic and Federer.
I remeber when Boris Becker was asked why he had lost a match: "because I played like a horse´s ass".
I guess the whole "if he was black then you'd be up in arms in accusations of drug use" thing doesn't really work here. You're going to have to find a new routine, I guess.

When they say that, they should be disqualified.
I hope Berian isn't crazy doped. Those TV splits are a couple tenths quick at least, but that was still a fine display of mortal hate which slowly but surely strangled his opponents.
Wait- so Donavan Brazier would have had a legitimate chance at winning the world championships if he were in the race?
Sure thing - if he can first make it through two prelims like Berian did.
New Balance, sponsor the WORLD CHAMPION and do it IMMEDIATELY!
Adidas will beat them to it.

What a race. That's what I'm talking about. He did what I wanted him to do - just went for it.
23.92, 49.73 (25.81), 1:17.37(27.64) and 1:45.83 (28.46) !!
Lucky to make the final by my goodness that more than made up for it.
Just put the cajones out there!!!
Sensational run off suicidal opener !!!
I don't know how he held on after 23.92 !!!
There is a good formula for 1st 200 split & expected 800 time :
800 = ( 4 * 200 opener ) + 3.00
His opening 200 was that expected for a
1'38.68 indoors !!!
Even if he'd still run solo but off a more sensible 24-high/25-flat opener, I'm sure he could have run probably about 1'44-mid & that's still undrafted !!!
Clearly he is currently in 1'43-flat shape for outdoors at worst ( that is for a solo effort ) off sensible opening 200/400 & with pacing to bell, that is a ~ 1'42-mid/high current shape
He still has whole of outdoor season to go in most important year of his life
If he doesn't smash thru 1'43 outdoors it would be a shock
Really, he shoud be looking more to get close to/break 1'42
just to "quantify" wildness of race from intermediates :
23.92i ->1'38.68i !!!
49.73i -> 2s slower 2nd lap ->1'41.46i !!!
1'17.37i -> formula is
(4/3 ) * 600 split +1
->1'44.16i
i always think a good rule of thumb to prelim estimate ideally run 800 off wild starts ( upto 2s too quick for opening 200 ) is to see what the 600 split implies
in this case it indicates he shouda been looking at very prelim 1'44-low if he'd started off properly with a 24-high/25-flat opener
that 1'44-low is still for solo effort !!!

1:41, you say? That is an unexpectedly reserved prediction from you.
I don't understand how he has been unsponsored this entire time. You'd think some shoe company would want to sponsor a 1:43 guy, one of the fastest U.S. All time. Even after USAs, wouldn't a shoe company step in to sponsor a US champion? Anybody have any insight? There are far worse athletes with sponsorships.

Doubt it. He's been running with Brenda and wearing NB all year.
What is the basis your thinking? It is very Letsrun, very "I'll feign certain knowledge I don't really have."

The only thing I can think of is that he cannot be sponsored due to his Big Bear track club set up. There are 1:47 guys in the UK that have SOME level of sponsorship.
