Hill and BTC should have been DQ'd for pacesetting

Have any of you seen the Twitter shade being thrown around surrounding the race?

First BTC tweeted this at the Oregon Project, which was admittedly kind of funny, but also was a passive aggressive jab at them. "WERE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!"

Then the Oregon Project responded with, "Great night for track! There's a future for indoor track in PDX! We will bring pacers next year."

Then they deleted it, and when they did, Phoebe Wright and Lauren Fleshman piled on (who else, of course?).

Really? Wasn't BTC talking smack first? But it appears to be in vogue even amongst the pros to throw shade at the NOP. Grow the f*ck up.

Are you joking about Rupp, Centro, and Jenkins? Of course they could. Look, Hill took a ride and then finished strong. The rest dropped or crapped the bed except 8:00 steeplechaser Evan Jager. Except when you consider he goes 8:00 minutes over hurdles and a water jump, then yeah, he crapped the bed. Sure Rupp struggled less than a month after an Olympic trials marathon, but these guys would have run over 8:00 if then even ran a 2:15 marathon and survived to run a 3000 less than a month later. So you want Levins to run 5:06 and then drop out? Sure he can do that. You want to throw in Farah with the rest of these 4? C'mon, he'd have dropped Hill with a Lap to go. BTC is a great group, but don't bring to light their weakness compared to NOP.

Ignoring what I said upthread (that its not against the rules because everyone who toes the line is a participant until after they drop out, (or lapped which precludes them from pacesetting)...

What's wrong with partisan pacesetting done by teammates? It is not against the rules, exciting racing, and an opportunity to bring the best out of key competitors.

You make all of this sound like a bad thing. I would rather have guys following faster leads (You don't have to be on a team to follow a fast lead, btw...) in races than continuing the practice of not actually racing for over half of the event. An Olympic final 5k shouldn't ever be slower than 13:10 at this point. This 3000 would have finished closer to 8 minutes than 7:40.

NOP needs to consult their history books....

This isn't the first time there was an "unofficial" pacer in the USA Indoor Nationals. In 2008, Kalpanatit Broderick of Team XO was asked by NOP to pace the Men's 1500m. It was known by all competitors before the race even began.

Unfortunately, when he dropped out he did so to the inside causing a pile up that almost took out Leer and Sherer.

Can you cite any precedence for the IAAF acting as you claim?

Didn't abumbalough do this last year too? Only difference was Rupp hadn't run a marathon the month before and beat Hill.
