This could legitimately change everything here: Do we know that the order is slow heat then fast heat? Cause if it is the reverse, where the "fast" heat is run first, then Galen would know what time he had to hit and would have a solo time trial to go after it. THAT would be exciting.

I agree and it's not a knock on Rupp. I think, due to his recent marathon training, he'll be lacking the finishing speed for a competitive 3k at this point.

I was wondering how Alberto hadn't thought that Rupp might be in the "B" heat. Another insider texted me last night and said when he saw Rupp run his 3k time in Portland, that he immediately thought it wasn't fast enough and would put him in the "B" heat. Alberto thinks of everything.
It had never crossed my mind that Alberto would want Rupp in the "B" heat. I had to laugh when I saw that one. I still don't buy it.

It may not be that bad, Rupp gets to run an unimpeded 7:40x time trail, which he should be capable of it he has hopes of making the team anyway. The A race is not going to be run faster than 7:40x even if they know the standard.
I'm not sure Salazar is that smart, but maybe. Rupp really should not be running world indoor.
He has only a slight chance to make the US team, and almost no chance to place high at worlds if he does. Maybe if he was in 3:51/7:30 shape, but he's in marathon shape.
He should have shut it down after the marathon so he could start building back up for olympics. He keeps saying his focus is on the 10K, but I think his best chance for a medal might be the marathon. Especially if rumors about his workouts are true.
Nobody will run faster than 7:44, in any heat.

There will be other runners on the track who he will have to negotiate. If he hits packs of these guys on the curves, he'll be running a longer race than necessary.

Why are you sure he is in marathon shape? I don't think he needed to be fully in 'thon shape to dominate his domestic competition last week. I also don't believe workout rumors, so maybe that is what differs.
The recovery from running the marathon is the relevant issue in my mind and is a huge question mark. It is also a possibility that the entry to the 3k is a ploy (but I thought the marathon entry was a ploy and I was wrong about that...at least I was right that if he ran the trials he'd dominate).

I see no proof that he is in "marathon shape". All he did was run a 2:11? I think. Lots of elite 1500/5000/10000 guys can do that without focusing on the marathon specifically.
You do realize that Galen has declared to be on the World Half team as well?
I would love to see Rupp soloing and qualifying from the slow heat. It would add to his legacy. A month after dominating the OT Thon he comes back to solo win indoor national 3k from the slow heat. Exciting stuff.
My only concern is injury risk in an Olympic year. Although an injury could be a blessing in disguise as it would allow Rupp some extra recovery and mental break from the grind of training.
After World indoor he has to gear up for the NATURAL DISTANCE TRIPLE at OT's. 1500, 5000, 10000.

Are there any more qualifying meets? No German, Derrick, Bumbi?
If Rupp's 2016 is: the OT marathon (already won convincingly), Indoor WC 3k (preferably a medal and/or 7:35--and yes, soloing out of the USA B heat would be awesome), 1/2 marathon WC (top 15--going sub-60 and top 5 would be nice), OT 5k/10k double (top 3 in both), OG 10k/marathon double (top 5/15--obviously medalling in both would seal the deal), he should have a week-long special LRC homepage dedication (unless/until PED evidence is proven).
Bumbi has been pre-DQ'd for not being Rupp Certified compliant.
